Was it because we were too powerful?

Was it jealousy?

Or fear?

Chapter 1: First Arrival at Konoha

"Finally reached Konoha."

A trace of happiness appeared on Shiki Uzumaki's slightly tired face.

He glanced down at himself and wrinkled his nose—he was filthy and ragged beyond belief.

His clothes were in tatters and hung loosely off his body; he looked worse than a beggar.

No choice about it—though he was a transmigrator, he couldn't show any advantages. Since he wasn't born in Konoha, he couldn't even cultivate chakra, let alone know any plotlines.

Moreover, his mother in this world, Uzumaki Qicao, had always been unwilling to let him come to Konoha.

But he didn't feel she treated him badly—on the contrary, having watched Naruto in his previous life, he roughly guessed some things.

After their clan had been destroyed, his mother worried he would invite disaster by becoming a ninja.

She wanted to protect him and hoped he'd live a quiet, peaceful life instead of becoming a powerful ninja.

Yet as his mother showed him more and more love, he increasingly felt he was truly a member of the Uzumaki clan.

Every time he saw his mother gazing toward the setting sun, shedding tears now and then, Shiki would tightly clench his fists.

He had never met his father; his mother simply seemed to avoid the topic, as if she never wanted to speak of that painful past again.

But judging by his surname and his pure red hair, his father should have also belonged to the Uzumaki clan. The reason why he had never met his father was already quite obvious.

Why had the Uzumaki clan, with no crimes committed, suffered such a brutal destruction?

Thanks to his past experiences, he understood clearly. Yet he knew that whether protecting his mother or avenging the Uzumaki clan,

or even gathering scattered clan members together to revive them, first he himself needed to grow stronger.

However, this gentle mother remained exceptionally firm on this single issue.

That changed when a group of rogue ninja separated him from his mother. Only then did he reluctantly make his way toward Konoha.

Actually, Shiki worried more about his mother's safety—but after continuously failing to find her despite arduous searching, he finally set forth toward Konoha. Only by growing stronger could he more easily locate his mother.

Along the entire journey, Shiki practically lived through begging and asking for directions. Enduring all that in a six-year-old's body was almost impossible.

Still, he managed to reach Konoha. Perhaps partially due to the robust vitality characteristic of the Uzumaki clan.

"Konoha! Finally arrived!"

After gazing at Konoha's gates and sighing once more, Shiki's vision went black as he fainted dead away.

The chunin at Konoha's main gate noticed the strange child had collapsed and hurriedly asked, "Hey! Kid! Are you okay?"

His voice was filled with genuine concern.

Though he found Shiki's red hair quite unusual, he didn't sense anything else particularly out of the ordinary.

At a certain location within Konoha village, the Third Hokage intended to pick up his crystal ball to check whether Naruto was once again messing around painting on the Kage Rock or causing other forms of destruction.

But when he saw the unconscious boy lying outside the village gates, he froze in shock.

"The Uzumaki clan… could there still be survivors?"

Outside the village walls, under particularly intense sunlight, the chunin observed that the boy remained unresponsive. He prepared to step forward and check the situation himself, intending to send this child for medical attention.

At that moment, however, a shadowy figure suddenly appeared beside him.

When he turned around and saw who it was, he immediately straightened and respectfully addressed, "Lord Danzo!"

Danzo nodded slightly and looked down at Shiki with an air of superiority. Then he turned to the chunin and said, "Leave the boy to me. You can return to your duties."

Upon hearing this, the chunin loudly responded, "Yes sir, Lord Danzo!"

After standing silently for a moment, Danzo said, "It is truly this child's honor to offer the last service of the Uzumaki clan to Konoha."

Then he stepped toward Shiki, intending to pick him up. Just as he was about to leave, a voice suddenly called from behind him.

"Let this child grow peacefully instead. After all, we owe the Uzumaki clan more than we could ever repay, don't we?" The Third spoke calmly, wearing the Hokage's ceremonial cloak.

In truth, the moment he spotted Danzo next to Shiki, he came at full speed.

Danzo stiffened momentarily, then justified himself in his unique manner, "If we indeed owe the Uzumaki clan so much, why not train this child to become a powerful ninja as repayment?"

Looking directly at the Third, Danzo appeared genuinely concerned for the child's future.

Shaking his head, Hiruzen's tone became more determined, "Danzo, grant this child space to grow freely. I believe he will become a strong ninja in his own way."

Danzo hesitated—he didn't want to openly clash with the Third, but he also wasn't willing to give up this last Uzumaki orphan.

He therefore suggested, "Hiruzen, perhaps this child himself desires greater strength? Whatever the case, understand this: with me, he can make an even greater contribution to Konoha."

Hiruzen Sarutobi removed his pipe from his mouth, exhaled a puff of smoke, and replied, "Then let the child choose his own path."

Without waiting for Danzo's response, Sarutobi walked past him directly, picked up Shiki, and headed into the village.

He used his chakra to check Shiki's condition and couldn't help but smile, remarking, "What a stubborn kid. Only someone from the Uzumaki clan could have that kind of spirit."

Standing rooted in place, Danzo remained still, unmoving even as time passed. Though brilliant sunlight shone upon Konoha's entrance, it failed to warm his form. The shadow cast behind him remained persistently gray and dark.

"Let Sasuke choose for himself?"

Danzo couldn't help but glance at his right hand. It was tightly wrapped in thick white bandages, like it had been seriously injured.

But Danzo's thoughts drifted to the Uchiha clan that had already been annihilated. He could almost feel the scorching presence of the Sharingan pulsing within his arm.

Then he thought about Sasuke Uchiha, the last surviving member of the Uchiha clan.

He glanced toward a Puppet: Corpse Crow perched on the thick branches of a nearby tree and murmured, "How can someone whose family has been wiped out resist the temptation of power?"

A filthy, stinky little boy — later known as Naruto — arrived at Konoha's hospital. Normally, a child like this would be sent directly to the orphanage.

But this child had been personally delivered by order of The Third, who specifically instructed them to take good care of him. So the nurses were left scratching their heads over what to do.
