Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 – First Sin, First Step

System of Sin: Cultivator Reborn as Villain

Chapter 2 – First Sin, First Step

Ravyn Xie lay on the cold floor of his barracks, the scent of blood still clinging to his robes. His body trembled—not from pain, but from the aftershock of power. Of release. His fingers curled, as if remembering the sensation of slashing through flesh.

He didn't regret it. Not the screams, not the stares, not even the horror in Feng Jiu's eyes.

If anything, it was intoxicating.

So this is how power feels in this body… savage, unrefined, but mine.

The silence was broken by the now-familiar hum in his skull.

[Sin Trial Completed.]

[Sin Index: 10]

[Path Alignment: WRATH – Tier I]

[Unlocked Passive: Predator's Aura – Rank I]

→ Minor fear and pressure effect against those of lower cultivation or unstable minds.

[New System Function Available: Sin Branches – Awakening Tree Unlocked.]

Ravyn's vision dimmed as the room around him melted into shadows. A translucent screen bloomed before him—a black tree with seven twisted branches, each etched with ancient runes.

At the base, a crimson core pulsed with light: WRATH – Active.

The other branches lay dormant:

ENVY – Faint green flickers.

GREED – Golden veins pulsing.

PRIDE – A crown of fire, cracked.

GLUTTONY – A devouring maw.

LUST – A coiling serpent.

SLOTH – Roots tangled, unmoving.

At the top of the screen, a message flickered:

"The path of ascension begins in sin. Each act unlocks your truth. Choose wisely, for only one branch may be fully mastered."

He stared at the screen in silence. The choices were clear, but the consequences hidden.

"So… I'm not just collecting points. I'm evolving."

He tapped on WRATH, and another screen opened.

[WRATH BRANCH – Tier I Unlocked]

Passive I: Predator's Aura (Unlocked)

Skill Slot: Empty

Sin Technique (Locked – Requires 25 Sin Index)

Wrath Tier II: Locked – Requires 100 Sin Index & first kill through rage.

First kill through rage? That… won't take long.

His fingers hovered over the "Skill Slot." A list unfolded—faint, gray icons representing dormant techniques.

Only one glowed faint red:

[Bloodlash Strike – Tier I Skill]

Condenses rage into raw Qi, releasing a short-range pulse that tears flesh. Ignores basic defense techniques.

Cost to Unlock: 10 Sin Index

Ravyn grinned.

"I'll take it."

[Bloodlash Strike Unlocked.]

[Sin Index: 0]

A pulse surged through his right arm. Veins bulged briefly, glowing red before fading. His body stiffened as the energy settled, like a new limb had just attached itself to his soul.

His smile widened. He could feel it now. The tension. The storm beneath his skin.

This system isn't just about numbers… It's alive. Responsive. It grows with me.

He sat up, steadying his breath. His vision was clearer. His pain—sharper, but distant. He stood and walked to the broken mirror again.

This time, he saw more than a bruised boy. He saw the predator behind the mask.

[New Quest Available in 6 hours.]

[Sin Branches Status: WRATH – Active | Envy – Unaligned | Greed – Unaligned | Others – Locked]

[Next Alignment Opportunity in 2 Quests.]

He closed the system window and stepped outside. The morning mist was heavy, the sky pale. Whispers reached his ears—disciples talking about Feng Jiu. About him.

None dared approach.

They were afraid.

Good.

He walked past them, silent and slow, his footsteps measured. A few eyes met his—then quickly turned away. The predator's aura was weak now, but it was there. Subtle. Enough.

He turned toward the edge of the sect's outer grounds, where the mountain paths split. There were dungeons, rogue cultivators, and even forbidden zones nearby.

But Ravyn wasn't heading there for training.

He was hunting.

As he reached the forest edge, the system chimed again.

[Optional Trial: Unprovoked Sin]

Commit a sinful act without provocation. Demonstrate initiative in cruelty.

Reward: +5 Sin Index

Penalty: None (Optional Trial)

He chuckled.

"So you want me to be proactive."

His eyes scanned the forest. A silhouette moved behind a tree—a junior disciple. Alone. Gathering herbs.

Perfect.

He stepped silently through the underbrush. The disciple never heard him coming. Ravyn's hand shot out, grabbing the boy by the collar and slamming him against the bark.

"Wh-what are you doing?!"

"I need practice."

With a whisper, he activated Bloodlash Strike.

The red Qi surged through his palm and exploded into the boy's abdomen. Flesh tore. Blood sprayed. The disciple screamed once before collapsing.

Still breathing—but barely.

Ravyn knelt beside him.

"You're lucky it was me. Others might've killed you."

He leaned in.

"But you'll never forget me."

He walked away as the system chimed once more.

[Optional Trial Completed.]

+5 Sin Index Earned

Current Sin Index: 5

Back at his quarters, he finally relaxed.

He had learned the system's rules. He had tasted its power. And he had taken his first steps toward something far greater than any sect could offer.

The world worshipped balance, karma, divine justice.

Ravyn Xie would bring imbalance. Corruption. Chaos.

Not as a pawn. Not as a hero.

But as sin itself.
