Chapter 12 - Three Pathways (3)

As for the ones whom ability is judged as useless can always become research subjects to earn money.

As compared to the rest of humanity, superhumans have much easier lives. This naturally creates pride in these beings which gets translated into resentment from the ordinary humans.

But the powers fully support the mutated humans so there is not much the resentful can do other than silently being absorbed into humanity.

This world didn't have something like democracy. Honestly, it would be strange if in the presence of superhumans that want to dominate the world, democracy could stand.

This was truly a strong eat weak world.

For example, there have been at least 5 wars going on in the world right now. And these are peaceful times in the world.

From what Silas could understand, the governments of the empires user wars to go full Orwell style and thin out the resistance while flaming the embers of hate.

The proof of this is that the four powers are almost constantly at war yet no piece of land is ever won by a party.

But another upside to this is that the people of this world are completely numb, contrary to the government's propaganda, they do not care about race or country.

But the hate has to go somewhere. So after some more research Silas finally found where that hate goes.

Surprisingly, it doesn't go towards the opposite sex. The existence of superhumans, which includes females, never let the seed of women inferiority bear inside the minds of the people.

In the history of this world, men and woman are equal. In this world, all empires and kingdoms were created by superhumans and male and female humans alike were nothing more than fodder.

Unsurprisingly, the main conflict in this world is between humans and superhumans. In this world, the same laws don't apply to humans and superhumans.

So the whole relationship between humans and superhumans is completely lopsided. The laws are a joke, and the supers are clearly in charge. Logically, you'd expect a rebellion brewing, but the strange thing is, there isn't one.

It's not because the empires are smart, Silas realized. It's because they're lazy.

They figured out that actually oppressing people takes a lot of effort. It's much easier to just give the humans enough food, housing, and mindless entertainment to keep them from getting any revolutionary ideas.

Life isn't great, but it's just good enough that it's not worth fighting to change it. It's a containment strategy that basically runs on its own.

And the best part is, the empires barely have to lift a finger to maintain the borders. The wilderness outside does all the heavy lifting. It's a chaotic wasteland where rogue superhumans are constantly at war.

The stories from out there are so horrific that no one in their right mind would ever want to leave the relative safety of the empire.

The fear of what's outside does a better job of keeping people in line than any army ever could. It allows the empires to keep the humans contained with the least amount of attention necessary.

According to a survey Silas read, the chances of a human surviving outside the empires is only 60%.

That means that in a month following a group of five's leave from an empire, two will die.

This chart doesn't account for becoming a slave or getting maimed. It just says that you are 40% likely to die if you go.

Silas even checked the dark web, which he had found by now, to confirm if the stats were true and they were.

This was all of the information Silas needed about this planet. He didn't really care about their customs, their way of living, the specific laws, etc.

He will learn these things when the need arises.

After gaining initial knowledge of the world, Silas started his research on the pathway he was most interested in currently, magic...

The reason he was leaning more towards the magic pathway over the metahuman and technological pathway was because it didn't cause any permanent changes to his body.

If he took the tech pathway, he was confident he could become one of the strongest beings on the planet quickly

Same was the case for the Metahuman pathway, Silas was confident he could create a powerful "Meta-Gene" that would grant him psychokinesis and impossible physical strength.

And to be honest, that is all you need. Psychokinesis is the most overpowered ability in the world that is limited only by mental and physical capabilities. But the strong body will fix that problem.

But before he started on these paths, he had to give Magic at least a chance. Magic was available everywhere in this world but also not really.

All he saw on the internet after hours were paltry tricks. It was like the toy gun true superhumans gave to the normal humans.

But at the same time, Magicians were the core support for any empire. All in all it was very complicated. It seemed that the actual 'good' spells were still highly regulated by the powers.

In the end, Silas didn't find anything of substance. But Silas wasn't about to give up without trying his best, so he decided to conduct an even deeper research on magic.

First, Silas searched the web and dark web about information on magic but he didn't find anything.

So, he started looking for information about a mid-sized bank. He got enough information about the bank from the dark web. What jack wanted to know was whether this bank hired a superhuman to protect their network.

Silas could break their network easily but superhumans was something he couldn't understand. So he found it best not to mess with them.

So, Silas used the dark web networks to stake out different banks. After two banks, Silas finally found a bank not protected by a superhuman. So, Silas wasted no time and started hacking this bank's network.

Given the hardware he currently had, hacking even a company in 1998 became a hard job. As such, it took him seven hours to complete the hack.

Luckily, he was in a 24/7 cafe.
