Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 Promise

This stabilized Hera's emotions again.

Mobius breathed a sigh of relief and said softly, "Hera, Your Highness, trust and communication are always the best ways to maintain friendships between gods."

Hera's ring finger traced a strand of hair that had fallen from her crown, and the corner of her eye showed bitterness. "But my best friend betrayed me for Zeus's sweet words. I gave her three chances. As long as she told me her difficulties, even if it was a lie, I would have been willing to let her go."

"Mobius! The biggest of those four scars you saw was given to me by her!" Tears fell from Hera's eyes. "The closest person hurts the most. My only request to her was to tell me the truth."

"But, but!" Hera's emotions began to fluctuate again, and Mobius had to increase his divine power output. "She would rather float in the ocean like a feather than yield."

"I used half of Zeus's authority to command the gods not to provide her with a place to rest, but her sister, the meteor goddess Asteria, transformed herself into a floating island in the ocean to allow Leto to give birth to those two bastards!" Hera's indignation seemed to overflow from her body.

This must be about Apollo and Artemis, so Hera's best friend is Leto? The birth of Apollo and Artemis was such a convoluted process.

He had thought it was simply because of Hera's jealousy that she tormented Leto so much.

However, if it were simply torment, it wouldn't have been necessary. Hera was relatively "lenient" towards most adulterers, either giving them a quick end or turning them into monsters and granting them eternal life.

"Then, Hera, Your Highness, do you feel better after speaking about it?" Mobius couldn't bring himself to say comforting words like 'everything is in the past.'

Because things hadn't passed, and such things would definitely happen again in the future. His words would only make things worse, with no other possibility.

Hera wiped away her tears and regained her elegant and noble demeanor. "I thought you would be like my sister, Hestia, the God of the Family, and say things like 'everything is in the past' and 'look forward.'"

"I've heard such words countless times already." A white gardenia appeared in Hera's hand, which she dropped to the ground. "Why is it always me who has to sacrifice? Can't Zeus back down just once?"

"My sister turns a blind eye to my pain, as if my thoughts don't matter, only the entire family does." Hera's face had extremely delicate makeup, but Mobius saw bitterness on her face.

Mobius picked up the gardenia from the floor, which looked like a perfect amber. This gardenia bloomed beautifully, but it lacked roots, so no matter how beautiful, it could not continue to grow.

"Hera, Your Highness!" Mobius's healing divine power made it sprout branches again. "The Goddess of the Family most desires family harmony, because that is her divine duty. If her own family is not happy, then she, as the God of the Family, would be a joke."

"Am I a joke like me?" Hera scoffed. "I thank my sister because she has always protected me, but I also resent her because she always persuades me to endure. The intertwining of pain and intimacy makes me very miserable."

"You missed a point! Lord Mobius, the reason you and Lord Ares are so harmonious is that your respective divine duties do not conflict with each other; in fact, they can complement each other," Hera said, regaining her composure.

"If you betrayed Lord Ares and could gain a powerful divine office that would give you power comparable to Zeus, would you be willing?" Hera asked, stroking her crimson nails.

Mobius's mouth twitched. What was wrong with Hera? Wasn't she just lamenting about her sister, her husband, and her friend? How did it suddenly turn to this?

And it even involved him. What the hell was this? Was this the thought process of powerful gods?

He couldn't compare, he couldn't compare.

However, Mobius still replied, "No, my dear Hera, Your Highness, as long as Lord Ares does not betray our friendship, I will never do that."

In fact, Mobius could have replicated what Athena did to Ares before this, repeating it. This would also be considered a betrayal of Ares, and then Mobius could gain a powerful divine office, if not comparable to Zeus, at least enough to make Zeus wary.

"Is that so? I hope, Lord Mobius, that you can remember your promise." A comforting smile appeared on Hera's face.

Seeing the smile on Hera's face, Mobius finally felt that he had been played. What she wanted was that one sentence from Mobius. All the long setup before was for that one sentence.

Indeed, a god who had lived for so long could achieve her goal inadvertently.

"Mobius, are you doubting that everything I've done is deceiving you?" Hera asked.

Mobius remained silent. He couldn't answer that question, because that's exactly what he was thinking.

"Mobius, you are the God of Healing, so you don't understand emotions. Everything I said is true; my sorrow, my suffering are all real, and my desire for you to say that is also real."

"Everything in the world is a combination of contradiction and unity. The interactions between gods also have many facets, so gods are complex and ever-changing, because contradiction and unity are both opposing and combining."

"Just like the flower blooming at your feet." Hera moved a finger. "A lily of the valley with a pearly luster turned into a monstrous man-eating flower."

"I have many identities. For each identity, I have different feelings. When facing Zeus, I am his wife. When facing my sister Hestia, I am her sister. When I face Ares, I am his mother. So every word is my understanding of different identities."

"My question to you is out of concern for a child, and you always carry a strange feeling that frightens me, fearing that one day you will harm this child of mine. As the God of War, he is naturally not directly connected to the divine, yet you unexpectedly became his subordinate god, and your abilities grow stronger day by day, just like Uranus, the first generation of God-Kings."

"No, you are even stranger than Uranus, the first generation of God-Kings, as if you are detached from the entire world, observing it," Hera said.
