Slam!!!

The Poké Ball hit Pidgeotto's head with a thump, then opened. Pidgeotto immediately turned into a red light and was sucked into the Poké Ball.

Click, the Poké Ball landed on the ground and began to shake. The red dot on the Poké Ball continuously flashed. Pikachu, Caterpie, and Misty watched the shaking Poké Ball nervously, as if their hearts were shaking along with it.

Ding!!!!

After shaking for a moment, it finally made a sound. The red light dissipated, and the Poké Ball stopped shaking, successfully capturing Pidgeotto.

"Yay! Good job, Caterpie!" Ash said excitedly upon seeing this. He was truly happy, unable to help but think inwardly. In the anime, Ash initially didn't understand type matchups and often made mistakes in type-disadvantaged battles, but in later seasons, he gradually understood type advantages. However, he still didn't prioritize type advantages. As long as he was happy, that was fine. Indeed, most trainers in this world cared about type advantages. Type-disadvantaged battles were truly difficult, but winning them was incredibly satisfying.

Caterpie~~~

Caterpie squinted its eyes. If its mouth didn't look like a gas mask, one might have seen its smiling face. Pikachu was also very excited. It came to Caterpie's side and happily patted it. As for Caterpie itself, it had probably never been so happy in its life. It was inherently weak. When they encountered Flying-types, they only had the option to flee. It had never imagined it could defeat them.

"See! I told you, even if you don't have a type advantage, you can still win. No matter what Pokémon it is, you can't judge it by its appearance."

"Yes, yes, Teacher Ash!" Misty said, looking as if she had been taught a lesson. But in her heart, she truly agreed with Ash's words. Not only had Caterpie defeated its opponent, but it was also Pidgeotto, which was much higher level and had a type advantage over it. Misty knew that she really couldn't keep looking at things with biased eyes just because she didn't like them.

"Then do you want to try? Caterpie really wants your encouragement!" Ash saw the opportunity and spoke up.

"Ah!! I..." Misty was still a little hesitant. After all, she had been afraid of bugs since she was old enough to know, and it wasn't like she could just stop being afraid.

"Just try it! If it doesn't work, don't force it." Ash saw this, picked up Caterpie, brought it to Misty, and said with a smile. Misty listened to Ash's words, looking at Caterpie's expectant eyes. Its round, black eyes seemed as clear as amber, and slowly, it didn't seem so scary anymore.

She cautiously extended her hand, gradually bringing it closer. Caterpie watched the approaching hand and slightly leaned its head forward. Misty instinctively started to pull back, but her hand had already touched it. She felt Caterpie's skin. It was a somewhat soft shell, with some green fuzz on its surface, feeling like a blanket. It wasn't as hard to accept as she had imagined.

"Doesn't it look good like this?" Ash also said with a smile, seeing this scene.

"Yes! Ah!!!" Just as Misty was about to speak, Caterpie suddenly closed its eyes, and a blue-white light suddenly shimmered around it. Misty was startled, quickly pulled back her hand, and Ash also watched in surprise.

"This is... evolution?" Ash placed Caterpie on the ground, looking at the glowing light. He never expected his first Pokémon's evolution to come so quickly. This was his first time witnessing a Pokémon evolve firsthand, and it was his own Pokémon. This felt completely different from seeing evolutions in a game; this was the evolution of true life.

Caterpie is a very weak Pokémon, so to quickly adapt to the harsh wilderness, their evolutionary cycle is very short. They evolve quickly in a short period of time. Wild Caterpie usually evolve quickly. Caterpie caught by trainers and then trained and battled with will evolve even faster. You know, Pidgey needs to reach Level 18 to evolve into Pidgeotto in the games, and then Level 36 to evolve again. Similarly, Caterpie only needs to reach Level 10 for its third stage evolution, because it is simply too weak. That's why its evolutionary cycle is so short, because they must quickly gain the strength to protect themselves in order to allow their species to survive in the wild.

The stronger the Pokémon, the greater the evolutionary cycle and difficulty naturally. This is the law of nature, and the evolutionary system it has developed. Clearly, the gap between Caterpie and Pidgeotto was huge. Caterpie, by game calculations, was below Level 7, while Pidgeotto was Level 18 or above. Crossing such a high level gap, even if Caterpie was only Level 2-3, the experience gained was enough to meet the evolution conditions.

Watching the light emanating before him, Caterpie's outline began to change, gradually taking on a moon-like shape. The light slowly faded, revealing a green figure. Its body was crescent-shaped, with raised eyes on either side that looked lazy. Its entire body was covered in green, crystal-textured armor. This was Caterpie's evolved form, Kakuna.

"It evolved into Kakuna!" Misty said in surprise.

"It must be because it defeated Pidgeotto! You worked hard, Caterpie—no, Kakuna. You'll truly shine soon!" Ash gently stroked the Kakuna in front of him. Kakuna seemed unable to make a sound now. But it squinted its eyes as if smiling. Wild Kakuna only needed a week to evolve, and with proper training, their speed could be even faster.

"Right!" After praising Kakuna, Ash also quickly got up and walked to a tree nearby. That was Pidgeotto's Poké Ball. Because he was distracted by Caterpie's evolution, he had forgotten about it. Now he remembered. Ash quickly picked up the Poké Ball and immediately opened it.

Bang!!!

Blue light flashed, and Pidgeotto's figure flashed out from the Poké Ball, landing on the ground. It was still tangled in some silk threads, which made it uncomfortable. Without arms, it couldn't struggle free at all.

"Let me help you! Nice to meet you, Pidgeotto." Ash saw this, squatted down, and while helping Pidgeotto remove the silk threads from its body, he also greeted it. Pidgeotto also felt a sense of goodwill due to Ash's actions.

Pidgeotto!
