Chapter 23 - Chapter:The Unquit Victory

Polly, Jane, the other women, and their children – all the freed people – were safe. A tangible sense of relief and happiness permeated the hijacked base. Laughter, weak but genuine, could be heard echoing through the newly secured corridors.

But A.D. was not much for celebrations. Three days after the successful takeover, he sat alone on a flight of stairs, his gaze distant, lost in thought. Jane found him there and quietly sat beside him. She laid her head on his shoulder, intertwining her fingers with his arm.

"A.D., I'm so happy that all went well," she murmured, her voice soft with contentment.

A.D. didn't reply.

"What are you thinking about?" Jane prompted, looking up at his pensive profile. "And what will we do next to win this level?"

A.D. stood, his expression unreadable. "Don't worry, we will win this game. Come with me."

He led Jane to a secure room, where the former boss of the camp was imprisoned.
