Chapter 143 - CHAPTER 143

Time passed quietly in the Seireitei.

Since confiding in Urahara Kisuke about the hidden reishi subspace beneath Seireitei, Captain Gosuke Shigure had chosen not to bring the matter up again. He neither pressed Kisuke for progress nor checked for updates.

He knew the man well enough — if Urahara uncovered something, he would come forward on his own.

Within the Eleventh Division, meanwhile, new rumors had begun to circulate — all centered around a single name: Tsunayashiro Ayana.

The Tsunayashiro Clan — one of the four great noble houses still standing — was known for its political reach and centuries-old influence in Soul Society. Though its reputation had been tarnished by internal scandals in the distant past, it still retained status as a cornerstone of Seireitei's nobility.

So when Lady Ayana Tsunayashiro, heir to that ancient bloodline, graduated from the Shin'ō Academy and chose to join not the Sixth Division of Byakuya Kuchiki, nor the stealth-oriented Second Division of Yoruichi Shihōin, but instead the brutal Eleventh Division, jaws across Seireitei dropped.

No one could understand it.

A noblewoman in the Division of blood and brawling? The Division that despised Kidō and honored only raw combat strength?

From the moment she reported to duty, whispers followed her everywhere.

"Someone from the Tsunayashiro family in Kenpachi's squad? She'll quit in a week."

"She won't last through her first hollow extermination."

Even within the Eleventh, skepticism was rampant. To them, Ayana represented everything they disdained — refinement, etiquette, and nobility. The Eleventh prided itself on grit, scars, and reckless courage.

Could a noble truly live like that? Could she fight, bleed, and laugh among them?

The answer, as it turned out, stunned everyone.

From her first mission, Ayana fought harder than anyone else. She charged headlong into battles, cutting down Hollows with fearless precision. When she was wounded, she treated it as nothing more than another mark of pride. And when missions ended, she sat shoulder to shoulder with the grizzled veterans, drinking sake and laughing as if she had been born among them.

It didn't take long before she was fully accepted.

Her grace in bearing contrasted with the savagery of her combat — and from that contradiction, the men of the Eleventh gave her a name.

"The Flower of Carnage."

A title half in awe, half in fear.

The "flower" spoke of her noble beauty and composure; the "carnage" described the way she fought — ruthless, precise, unrelenting.

When the nickname reached Captain Shigure, he could only sigh, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Flower of Carnage, huh… it sounds like something out of a bad tavern ballad."

Still, he didn't argue. The men loved her, and that was what mattered.

Truth be told, Shigure had long since stopped micromanaging his division. His approach to leadership could be summed up simply: never absent from captain meetings, rarely present for anything else.

Battle deployments? He delegated.

Daily missions? Left to his seated officers.

Reports? As long as the paperwork was stamped and the mission succeeded, he never asked twice.

After Asido Nia's return from the Menos Forest and reinstatement as Third Seat, the Eleventh gained another formidable fighter. Alongside the likes of Zaraki Kenpachi and Madarame Ikkaku, the Division was overflowing with combat talent.

Asido was different from Zaraki, though — disciplined, analytical, and surprisingly adept at administrative work. He often helped Shigure handle the tedious reports and logistics the Captain detested.

With subordinates like that, it was no wonder Shigure had one of the most relaxed lives in the entire Gotei 13.

Naturally, that didn't go unnoticed.

One afternoon, the lazy peace of Seireitei was broken by the familiar, cheerful drawl of Kyōraku Shunsui, Captain of the Eighth Division.

He sat beside Shigure on the tiled roof of a barracks, the two sharing a bottle of sake under the sunlight.

"Tell me something, Shigure," Shunsui said, tipping his straw hat up. "How in the world does Kenpachi get to live a more leisurely life than I do? You're supposed to be leading the rowdiest squad in the Gotei 13!"

Shigure chuckled quietly. "Maybe my squad's too good at their jobs. They fight before I even think about drawing my sword."

Shunsui groaned, slumping back. "You make it sound so simple. I've got Lisa breathing down my neck every day. I can't even sneak out for a drink without worrying she'll drag me back by the collar."

That drew a rare grin from Shigure. "What, are you saying Yadōmaru Lisa's too competent for her own good?"

Shunsui sighed dramatically. "Competent? She's relentless. I pick her as my lieutenant, thinking she'd lighten my load, but she's worse than Nanao ever was. She turns everythinginto a two-person job! And every time I try to skip paperwork for a drink, she appears out of nowhere — glasses glinting, eyes like daggers — and ruins my day."

He lifted his flask mournfully. "You have no idea how hard it is living under constant lieutenant surveillance."

Shigure laughed, taking a sip from his own bottle. "You chose her, Shunsui. Live with the consequences."

Shunsui only waved a hand, muttering, "Maybe I should've recruited that Ayana girl from your Division instead. At least she seems to know how to have fun."

"That one?" Shigure smirked faintly. "She'd outdrink you before you finished your first bottle."

For a while, the two Captains sat in companionable silence, the laughter of lower-ranked Shinigami echoing faintly through the streets below.

To outsiders, it might have looked like two lazy men wasting away the day — but behind their smiles, both carried thoughts they couldn't share aloud.

The world was shifting.

Reishi currents within Seireitei felt strange, subtly warped.

And somewhere deep below them, unseen and unheard, something in the shadows stirred.
