"An Eevee That Can Infinitely Evolve and Devolve?"
On the way toward the outskirts of Celadon City, Logan contacted Professor Oak, hoping to gather more information. The fact that Sabrina would casually hand over details about such a rare and important Pokémon didn't sit right with him. Logan couldn't shake the feeling that something about this was off.
Sabrina wasn't exactly an evil person at her core, but she certainly wasn't the type to go out of her way to help others either.
Professor Oak rubbed his chin thoughtfully after hearing Logan's question.
"…If it's Team Rocket, then it's certainly possible. After all, they managed to create Mewtwo. In comparison, genetically altering Eevee wouldn't be too surprising."
"…Ah, yes. I remember now. A few years ago, a Pokémon research facility in Viridian City was attacked by terrorists. When investigators combed through the aftermath, they found that several extremely important documents had gone missing. Among them—was research specifically focused on the evolution and de-evolution of Eevee."
Logan's eyes widened.
"Research like that? That doesn't sound like proper, ethical science. They were experimenting directly on Pokémon's bodies?"
"That's old data," Oak admitted. "The scientist who wrote those papers had their work sealed away precisely because it was considered inhumane and dangerous. The research was never published. I have no idea how Team Rocket even learned that such a paper existed in the first place."
After a moment's hesitation, Professor Oak added,
"…And as for the researcher—you've already met her not long ago. It was Agatha."
At the mention of her name, his expression turned complicated.
"So you knew, Professor Oak," Logan said slowly, his eyes narrowing. "You already knew that the one behind the horrors in Lavender Town was Agatha."
"As soon as I heard Blue had gone missing, I began investigating Lavender Town. Once I heard the whispers of urban legends and strange phenomena, I had a strong suspicion Agatha was involved. She's reckless, yes, and her experiments often cause innocent people to get hurt—but she doesn't target humans directly. That's the only reason I dared to send you after Blue in the first place."
Oak's voice carried both regret and resignation. He clearly knew Agatha well—so well that he could piece together her involvement from the smallest of signs.
It was obvious—Professor Oak and Agatha weren't just colleagues. There was something deeper between them, old emotions long buried.
"Compared to a trainer, Agatha is more of a pure researcher," Oak continued. "She never got over losing to me at the very first Indigo League tournament. That defeat fueled her obsession for years, pushing her to keep training her Pokémon. And now? She's even become a member of the Elite Four."
Logan blinked. "So that's why… Now that you mention it, Professor, you were the original Champion of Kanto. The very first."
Oak laughed heartily, waving his hand.
"Hahaha! That was when I was young. I'm old now, out of practice, nowhere near as strong as I was back then."
Logan doubted that. He couldn't believe a man like Oak had truly grown rusty. But seeing that Oak wouldn't admit to it, Logan didn't push further.
"As for the matter you asked about—I do know a little more," Oak said, lowering his voice. "Recently, I received word that a secret Team Rocket laboratory in Celadon City was destroyed. The local Gym Leader, Erika, led the attack with a group of Celadon trainers. That special Eevee you mentioned… it was rescued in the process. Sabrina told you about it only because Rocket already lost control of it."
Logan frowned. "So Sabrina was just tossing me a bone—passing on information about something that wasn't even hers anymore."
"Exactly," Oak confirmed. "And she likely knew that if you showed interest, it would put you in direct conflict with Erika of Celadon."
Oak's insight was sharp, honed by years of experience. He saw straight through Sabrina's calculated move.
"But Team Rocket is brazen enough to pull stunts like this out in the open. Doesn't the League care? Even you, Professor—you already know Sabrina's aligned with Rocket. Doesn't the League act on that?" Logan asked, his brow furrowed.
"There's no helping it," Oak sighed. His white eyebrows knitted in frustration. "Many of the League's higher-ups have been bribed or bought by Rocket. Their influence has grown enormous. In Kanto, their control rivals—even surpasses—the League's. As for the Elite Four… they refuse to follow League orders. If the Elite Four actually joined forces, Rocket would have been crushed long ago. But as it stands, the League can't touch them."
Oak's distaste for politics was obvious. He looked as though the subject left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Enough of that. What matters is this—you will inevitably clash with Team Rocket one day. They've been too active lately, making moves as though preparing to step fully into the open."
His tone shifted to encouragement. "That Eevee… it has suffered, just as you once did, Logan. You of all people will understand its pain. That's why you must capture it. If you do, I'd like to study it as well. Not the way Rocket would, no—but out of true curiosity. Eevee is fascinating. Across all the regions I've researched, I've identified eight confirmed evolution forms so far. Some remain poorly understood, but they exist. And then there's the one every researcher suspects… the Dragon evolution. Perhaps with your unique power and this Eevee's unstable evolution ability, we could discover the first true Dragon-type Eeveelution in history!"
Oak's voice brimmed with excitement. He wasn't speaking as a professor bound by duty or politics, but as a man deeply in love with the mysteries of Pokémon.
After asking Oak for more specific details, Logan ended the call. Following the signal device in his hand, he finally arrived at his destination.
This was the outskirts of Celadon City. The area was quiet, devoid of travelers or wild Pokémon. In front of him stood a sprawling estate, its borders resembling a private sanctuary rather than public land.
One look was all it took for Logan to realize Oak was right—this Eevee hadn't escaped on its own. It had been rescued and hidden here. The overgrown grounds, devoid of human or Pokémon presence, felt like a carefully prepared refuge.
A thought gnawed at him.
What if this Eevee already belongs to someone?
If it was claimed, then unless its trainer released it, Logan had no right to capture it.
Still, driven by both duty and curiosity, Logan stepped into the lush estate. The tracker pinpointed the Eevee's location with precise accuracy.
Not long after, he saw it.
A small, fox-like creature with mostly brown fur, a fluffy tail, and long rabbit-like ears. It was utterly adorable. Playfully bouncing on a wooden seesaw, it looked carefree, as if it had forgotten every scar from the cruel experiments it endured.
"Eevee, Eevee~~"
It chirped happily, like a puppy at play.
But then—its long ears twitched. Its joyful expression hardened into alertness. Digging its claws into the ground, it turned toward Logan's direction.
The moment it saw him, its nose twitched, catching his scent. Fear instantly filled its brown eyes.
And then—its body changed.
Its form expanded rapidly. Its fur shifted from brown to blazing crimson. What had been a tiny, thirty-centimeter fox-like creature suddenly became a towering beast nearly two meters tall!
Logan's eyes gleamed.
"Unbelievable… it evolved without a stone. This really is one of a kind."
He instantly reached for a Poké Ball. The fastest way to capture such a Pokémon was clear—defeat it in battle.
But just as the clash was about to begin, outside the estate…
A girl in a school uniform walked forward gracefully, her steps deliberate and elegant.
