Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

The narrator explained, "After Megan and Joseph finished dinner, Megan went to her room to think about the case. While she was deep in thought, so were the vampires." Matt received a call from Carolyn and Angelica. "Progress report?" he asked. Carolyn replied, "We've got a balanced situation. The villagers are heading home for the night; we can act at midnight and possibly add more to our crew if there's anyone to enslave." "And what's the downside?" Matt pressed. Angelica took over the conversation. "There's a snag," she admitted. Matt sighed, already suspecting what it could be. "Chief Jade?" he guessed. "How did you know?" Angelica asked. "Not this time," Matt insisted. "We're going ahead with this, even if she's anticipating us. And Angelica, I don't mean to cut you out, but I need you to do me a favor." He picked up a framed photo of Megan and Joseph hugging from his desk and gazed at it.

The narrator stated, "The telephone rang, and Joseph answered. Megan then joined the call on another line and listened to their conversation." Angelica said, "I will meet you in the town square in 15 minutes. I have a surprise for you." Joseph replied, "Excellent. I look forward to it." After their conversation, Angelica and Joseph disconnected, followed by Megan. Subsequently, Megan contacted Kendal and Kayla, who became alarmed after learning what Megan had overheard. Kendal stated, "You must prevent Joseph from going." Megan inquired, "Why?" Kayla explained, "Angelica is a 1400-year-old vampire with a surprise intended for a werewolf. Her intentions may be lethal. Conversely, if she fails, your brother could endanger her life with one bite. Therefore, unless you intervene, either the vampire will get eaten, or the werewolf will get killed.

The narrator described, "Megan slipped on her jacket and began to trail Joseph." When Joseph rounded the corner into the town square, Angelica noticed he looked different from how he had during their previous encounter. The narration continued, "Joseph and Angelica strolled together while daylight lingered. As dusk settled in, Megan spied on them while Kendal and Kayla chatted with Megan on the phone." Kendal asked, "What's going on?" Megan replied, "They're having a conversation. Now he's grinning and touching her cheek—it seems like he's flirting." Kayla responded, "No, he's drawing her in; he's just waiting for the perfect moment to eat her." Megan added, "Now she's mirroring his actions, trying to keep his attention focused on her." Kendal insisted, "No, not her—her eyes. If he meets her gaze, she'll hypnotize him."

The narrator stated, "As Megan monitored Joseph and Angelica to ensure their interactions remained civil, the vampires proceeded to the jewelry store. Upon their arrival, Maddy assumed the appearance of the owner before entering the premises. Once inside, she accessed the security office and contacted Chris." Maddy inquired, "Chris, could you guide me on disabling the alarms and allowing entry for the others?" Chris responded, "Press the green button." Maddy complied and successfully deactivated the alarm system. Subsequently, the vampires entered covertly and searched. They stole the gold ring that the mayor had submitted for fitting.

Continuing, the narrator explained, "During the theft, Police Chief Jade responded promptly to the scene. Upon noticing this while accompanied by Joseph, Angelica contacted Matt, who answered immediately." Angelica remarked, "Excuse me," briefly excusing herself to speak with Matt privately. Angelica reported, "The werewolf has been contained and remains alive for now, but that may soon change. Regardless, if you do not possess the item, abort the mission. Law enforcement is en route." Matt responded, "We've secured the item, and as usual, we've ensured that no evidence remains." We will reconvene at the castle after you deal with the werewolf."

The narrator explained, "Joseph handed Angelica a rose, which she sniffed. Sensing control over Joseph, Angelica attempted to kill him—but before she could act, Megan rushed out to stop her." Megan called out, "Wait, don't." The narrator continued, "Hearing the voice, Joseph turned to see Megan hurrying to prevent Angelica's attack." Joseph asked, "Megan? Why are you here?" Angelica wondered, "And how did you know where to find us?" Megan replied, "Oh, nothing—let's just call it a coincidence." Suspicious, Joseph pressed, "Wait. Were you spying on us?" Megan laughed and answered, "Of course not. That would be dishonest and rude." Joseph approached Megan, flashing his intimidating werewolf eyes. He warned, "You'd better hope that's true." The narrator added, "Joseph left with Megan following, leaving Angelica alone by the fountain with Joseph's rose. Looking at the flower, Angelica felt loved, but soon sat by the fountain, overtaken by sadness." Angelica sighed, "What's wrong with me? You'd think I'd have learned by now."

Angelica began singing about her past experiences with love, declaring she wouldn't go down that road again. She tossed the rose Joseph had given her, and someone inside the church caught it when they noticed her sitting outside. The choir joined her song, suggesting they knew who was on her mind and urging her not to deny her feelings. Someone waved the rose at Angelica, but despite the choir's encouragement, she continued to insist she wasn't in love with Joseph and walked away. The choir questioned why she refused her emotions rather than accepting them. Wandering through town, Angelica sang as she observed statues symbolizing love. At a pond, she tripped and grabbed a werewolf statue's hand, smiling as bystanders sang, teasing her about appearing enamored with the statue. Snapping back to reality, Angelica kept denying her affections in song, while those around her encouraged her to admit the truth. Back at the fountain, a choir child placed Joseph's rose beside her, and the crowd sang that it was okay to feel loved without shame. Angelica leaned back, found the rose, picked it up with a smile, then pressed it to her heart and lay by the fountain, bringing her song to an end.

The narrator recounted, "After her performance, Matt gave Angelica a call, and she picked up." Angelica confirmed with a simple, "Yes." Matt wanted to know, "Has the werewolf been dealt with?" Angelica replied, "Not yet. I nearly succeeded, but his human sister intervened and took him away before I could finish the job." Matt expressed his frustration: "If this continues, we'll never catch him. You need to find a way to get him on his own so you can kill him." With an evil grin, Angelica responded, "I believe I've just figured out the perfect plan."
