Chapter 6 - 6. Glicht?

On an artificial island in the middle of the ocean, two figures stood near the edge seemingly staring into space.

Two girls who barely looked older than 20, both still with an appearance that was somewhere between beautiful and adorable, with two main points that set them apart.

One had white skin and silver-white hair, almost as white as snow, with loose hair that reached her back, which contrasted greatly with her eyes in a vivid ruby tone.

The other was black, not a darker skin tone but skin that was pitch black just like her short hair and emerald green eyes with cat-like wings, which matched the feline ears on top of their heads.

They had been looking at the horizon like this for centuries, millennia even, seeing everything that existed on the planet beyond that island.

They saw when animals began to take their first steps, learning to use their paws as hands and to master fire, soon organizing themselves into settlements, creating clothes and ceasing to be mostly quadrupeds to become bipeds, although some, even with an intellect equal to or greater than that of humans, continued as quadrupeds.

They saw and celebrated all of this, both the achievements and the tragedies of this new humanity. For the girl in black, the emotion of seeing them take their first steps was overwhelming, a stark contrast to the monotony that her life had been until she met her white sister, who in turn was once again appreciating the emergence of a new humanity and wondering how they would develop next.

Would they follow in the footsteps of the first and second humanities? Would they explore the cosmos, conquer supreme knowledge and become as close as possible to gods, or would they choose another path this time?

The pale young woman didn't know it, but she would be here, observing, keeping in her eternal memory every step they took in the world and beyond. Along with the last descendant of the second humanity, who had decided to follow the same path as an observer with her.

This pale young woman was the last of the Elders, the first humanity to populate this world called Earth more than 300 million years ago. While her dark sister with feline features was the last descendant of the second humanity who followed in the same footsteps as the first, achieving the same feats a little over 100 million years ago.

With the glaring difference that they (the second humanity) did not use scientific power like the first, but a power that they developed for no apparent reason, the power of magic.

Even after years, this was the only way she had of calling upon that ability, formed from direct communication with the world through a voice, which altered the shape of the world itself in a controlled manner.

She saw them being born, she saw them fighting and dying, she saw them rising up and launching themselves into the heavens, she saw them returning already tired of their conquests and the greater universe and she saw their slow death after they had conquered seemingly everything in existence, just like hers kind before.

Now with the company of her "sister" she enjoyed this spectacle again, with new creatures that, like the second humanity, had developed a special organ for magic, but slightly different from the second.

They would now be in what would be the end of the Bronze Age and entering the Classical Age with new kingdoms and empires, leaving behind the weak previous settlements.

As they watched on another ordinary day, they felt something… different.

"What was that?"

"I don't know…. This has never happened before."

She really didn't know what to think, for the simple fact of not knowing what had happened, if something had really happened or how it could have happened without any of them noticing.

"It was somewhere around here, right?"

"Maybe…, I'm not sure."

This was disconcerting, they were used to having control of everything, knowing everything and never having any kind of defect. If something happened, it was in relation to their observation targets, but never in relation to them.

What they felt was a kind of glitch, there was no other way to describe what they had experienced, something like a glitch in reality.

This was not something that happened spontaneously, much less naturally. In millions, maybe even billions of years, this was the first time either of them had seen something like this.

It was unnerving, and at the same time curious and exciting, something they didn't know had just happened and even trying they couldn't figure it out!!!

Shortly after they felt a new sensation, it lasted less than 1 second but it was etched in their minds, something had tried to hack their respective monitoring and sensory sharing networks with the drones, right in the same place where they had felt the glitch.

There was something there, something that was not normal, that shouldn't be there but was and they wanted to know, they wanted to see, observe and through the drones feel what it was.

They sent several drones to the area but all they found was a group of explorers, for the young feline the "new humanity's" version of adventurers, camping in a forest during a storm. No matter how much or how little they searched, there was nothing out of the ordinary in the area, just an unusually strong storm and some lightning striking with a spike in frequency.

For them, this was proof enough that there were indeed some things there, but that they didn't want to be seen by them.

'Very well, if you think you can hide from us...'

'We'll show you how wrong you are.'

They thought as most of the drones dispersed, leaving only a few in the area to observe the group as before.
