Chapter 28 - CHAPTER 28. PLANS IN MOTION

Chapter 28: Plans in Motion

The boardroom of Ikemba Corporation was a sleek, imposing space high above the noise of Lagos. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed the cityscape, but no one's eyes lingered on the view. All attention was on Rose Ikemba, whose calm, sharp gaze swept over the group seated before her.

"Your situation is delicate," Rose began, voice steady but firm. "The Veil is a shadow faction not to be underestimated. They have agents everywhere, and their patience is endless."

Joshua stood beside Karen, folding his arms. "They've been hunting her since Soul Island. We underestimated their reach."

Rose nodded, then turned to her secretary, Sia. "Deploy Shadow Unit 3 across all key locations. They will continue protection, but we need a more proactive approach."

Sia tapped her tablet. "Already in motion, ma'am. The Soul Reapers are ready."

Marie leaned forward, brows knit. "But what about Karen? We can't keep her locked away. She needs to train—grow stronger."

Rose's gaze softened just a bit. "Agreed. Karen will receive the best training and resources we can provide. However, her safety is paramount. Any excursions outside this facility will require escort."

Cassandra exchanged a glance with Karen and the others. "If the Veil knows where she is, they'll keep testing our defenses."

"Which is why," Rose said, "we need to strike back. I want a team assembled — skilled operatives who can infiltrate the Veil and gather intel. This isn't just defense anymore."

Joshua's eyes darkened. "I want in on that."

Rose considered him briefly, then gave a curt nod. "You'll have your chance. But this mission won't be easy — the Veil doesn't just fight with soul energy. They play games of manipulation, deception."

Karen felt a spark of resolve. "Then we learn their games. We won't be their prey."

Rose's lips twitched in the hint of a rare smile. "Good. Because you'll need to be ready for anything."

As the meeting dispersed, the group felt the weight of what lay ahead. The Veil was no longer just a shadow on the horizon — it was an encroaching storm. And Karen Lockwood stood at the eye of it.
