Dinner was quiet.
It wasn't tense but just filled with unspoken words and few glances. They barely spoke as they ate, but they couldn't stop staring at each other.
Every time Veyr raised the chopsticks to his mouth, every time his tongue darted out to taste the noodles, Ryn watched with rapt attention.
It was as if he was learning how Veyr swallowed his meal, how he licked the chopsticks, and whenever he was caught staring, he looked away immediately and pretended to eat.
"I know you can't stop staring at me," Veyr said after a moment of silence, when they were halfway through their meal. "I appreciate you staring at me," he added.
Ryn coughed as he choked on his food. "Here," Veyr handed a glass of water to him. "Drink. I wouldn't want you choking to death because of me."
