Mira pointed toward the massive creature that still hadn't made a move. Its molten body shimmered, the branches atop its flaming head crackling faintly. "I think the light you shot at its branch weakened it," she said with conviction. "If we can hit that spot again, maybe with more light, the barrier will hold, and everyone inside it will be safe."
Her voice trembled, but her eyes burned with determination. She wasn't afraid—not anymore.
Veyr turned to her, his voice firm. "But this means you'll be risking your lives. Thane, you are the prince of Verolona. If anything happens to you, your kingdom will hold us responsible. Turn back now."
Thane shook his head immediately. "You're at your limit," he replied, calm but resolute. "You look like you need help. I'll stay and fight beside you."
Veyr opened his mouth to argue, but suddenly coughed, the metallic taste of blood spreading over his tongue.
