Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Butterfly Effect

'Should I slip away?'

Gu You stared at the enormous monster in the distance, falling into deep thought. This butterfly effect, triggered by his actions — should he bear that responsibility? Maybe, if he had never existed, none of this would have happened.

"Cause and effect cycle — you can't escape even if you want to." Gu You shook his head and leapt forward into the distance.

"General, a message from the Tianqing Sky Eye. Please take a look."

A young soldier handed over a small card.

Qiong Shiyu's left hand pulsed with soul power. The card floated into the air, and lines of encrypted characters appeared before his eyes. As he read, his eyes widened in growing shock.

"General, is something wrong?" the soldier asked cautiously.

"Assemble the Sixth Mecha Regiment. Come with me…"

Before he could finish, Qiong Shiyu vanished from sight.

The young soldier froze for a moment. After all, the general was a Super Douluo, fully equipped with three-word battle armor, capable of unleashing Limit Douluo-level strength at full force. Why was he so anxious? Why was he gathering the entire Sixth Mecha Regiment? That regiment alone had a Titled Douluo and seven Soul Douluos.

'Something major is happening.'

The soldier didn't hesitate further and rushed away.

"Captain! We made contact! We made contact! Any moment now…"

Before the voice over the communicator could finish, Jiang Xing heard a sharp, wet tearing sound, like something slicing through flesh.

"Damn it!" Jiang Xing slammed his fists weakly against his thighs. Without the cover of artillery, even if their three Soul Douluos could buy some time, the odds of anyone in the team surviving were almost zero.

But he had heard hope — they had made contact.

They had to hold on.

Jiang Xing roared inwardly, determined.

"Ants! Ants! What's the point of resisting?"

The Evil God bellowed in fury. A massive vortex spun open in the sky, raining down black flames.

Vines surged up from the ground, wrapping together to form one grotesque black-eyed monster after another.

"Kill!" the Evil God ordered.

Countless monsters surged forward, charging the mecha formation.

"All in!"

A Soul Douluo piloting his mecha gripped his spear tightly. Small-scale artillery mounted on his back provided constant covering fire as he fought alone, forcing the monsters back inch by inch.

But what was the point of doing this?

"Captain… tell me honestly, do you really think we can make it out alive?"

A soft, fragile voice came through the communicator.

"We can! Why couldn't we?" Jiang Xing said, trying to encourage them. But deep down, he knew — could they really escape alive?

"Everyone… you all know, right? Even if we make it out, what will we have left? We might as well… burn our lives."

"What are you saying?" Jiang Xing asked in disbelief.

"I said… burn our lives!!"

One mecha suddenly broke away from the group, carrying three tons of missile-grade explosives. Inside was a Soul King, who detonated at the monster's leg, leaving behind a heap of twisted wreckage.

The Evil God's lower leg cracked open, but quickly regenerated.

Still, the sight ignited something in everyone.

Yes — facing a self-proclaimed god, a monster possibly at Limit Douluo level, what else could they fight with?

Only one thing: life!!

Life might seem small, but its greatness was beyond measure.

You, Evil God, who dismisses life, who perches high above and looks down, playing with us like ants, refusing even to wipe us out directly — you are wrong! Dead wrong!!

No one has the right to belittle life. No one has the right to command it.

"You call us ants, but you must admit — ants have never truly been wiped out."

One mecha after another soared into the sky.

They burned their very lives.

"You…!"

For the first time, the Evil God felt fear. No matter how strong her regenerative abilities, if the explosions were dense and rapid, even she couldn't repair herself quickly enough.

"Good thing I wasn't too late."

Gu You stood atop a tall building, pressing a hand to his chest.

"Go!"

Countless beams of light burst from his mind, raining down in dense waves onto the ground below.

Soul beasts. Dense, countless soul beasts! Over a hundred, their cultivation levels spanning a wide range.

'Who dares wake me up? What's going on? Hey! How did I get out here?'

The Ice Emperor Scorpion looked around in confusion, startled by the sight of the massive monster in the distance.

Jijiba, unfamiliar with the surroundings, tensed his powerful muscles. A small patch of purple scales shimmered on his head as he let out a fierce hiss toward the Evil God.

'What the hell…?'

Jiang Xing was stunned. What was he seeing? A human boy's mind suddenly unleashing this many soul beasts?

He knew spirit souls could materialize for battle, but surely they weren't all spirit souls from this boy, right?

"So it was you! You stole my collection."

The Evil God's eyes locked onto Gu You.

"Bah, bah, bah! Who's your collection? Little ones, go!!"

Before Gu You could even speak, the Ice Emperor Scorpion was already fuming.

To dare call it a collectible? That was asking for trouble.

Gu You didn't stop them. These soul beasts couldn't die. He had studied this carefully — as long as they were injured or struck, they would instantly return to his mind. In effect, it was cost-free attrition.

"Arrogant!"

Behind the Evil God, a strange magic array began to form, power rapidly building until it erupted in a blast aimed directly at Gu You.

"A monster that dares call itself a god — let me show you what a true divine skill is!!"

Behind Gu You, a divine wheel slowly rose into the air.

At the same time, three soul rings lifted and hovered around him.

The divine wheel shimmered faintly, and a vast, overwhelming aura surged outward.

Annihilation!

Targeted unit — all attributes reduced by fifty percent, skill power decreased by twenty percent, and soul power cost proportionally reduced for the user.

A divine skill — practically a cheat. Reducing an opponent's abilities by fifty percent at the same level? That was nearly invincible.

The surrounding air grew chaotic.

Gu You's entire body was cloaked in his martial soul, the dragon scales on his hands flaring open and then snapping shut. His hundred-thousand-year soul ring lit up, activating its second soul skill —

Dragon God's Wrath!

A massive sphere of destruction slowly condensed behind Gu You's dragon-shadowed figure.

The ice domain expanded outward, intertwining with traces of extreme cold inside the destructive sphere.

Go!

The destructive light sphere surged forward, colliding head-on with the Evil God's beam.

The force of their clash enveloped everything nearby, shaking the entire battlefield.

Jiang Xing's vision blurred under the pressure of the domains. At this point, he was too stunned to speak.

A three-ring Soul Ancestor with a hundred-thousand-year soul ring? And possibly dual-domain techniques? Whose monstrous genius was this? Why had he never heard of them before?

"Captain, what should we do now?"

The few remaining soldiers asked over the communicator.

"What do we do?! Of course we fight!

What, you want to just stand here and let a three-ring kid save us?"

Jiang Xing's voice was sharp with determination.

He still had a trump card — an eighth-level fixed-installed soul-guided missile, classified as a destruction-class weapon.

Its blast was equivalent to a ninth-level fixed-installed soul-guided missile, powerful enough to destroy an entire city, sending a mushroom cloud soaring a thousand meters into the sky — a Super Douluo's full-force strike.

This wasn't like the old ninth-level missiles from Douluo II that couldn't even kill a few Soul Emperors or Soul Saints.

After years of research, they had developed bombs of every attribute.

The point was simple, the times had changed.
