After thinking it over carefully, Gu You stepped forward and picked up a soul-guided rifle.
Looking at the weapon in his hand, Gu You chuckled. As a child, this was the one thing he always dreamed of touching.
The lieutenant's brows lifted slightly at his choice, though a faint trace of disappointment flashed in her eyes.
"You're just like most new recruits." Her tone carried a hint of disdain, but she said nothing more. She led Gu You out of the armory and toward the center of the camp, entering an exceptionally large building.
The building had a spire-shaped roof and stood as the tallest structure in the camp, about fifty meters high. Entering from a side door, Gu You finally saw more soldiers.
There were dozens of them inside, all dressed in white military uniforms. The uniforms were sharp and clean, and each bore the Snow God Carving emblem—just like the one on Gu You's letter of recommendation. No one paid attention to him as he entered, but Gu You noticed something curious: all of these people wore officer insignias. The lowest rank among them was Second Lieutenant—there wasn't a single enlisted soldier here.
Could this be the command center of the Blood God Legion?
The lieutenant led Gu You to an elevator nearby. Just as they were about to step inside, a cold voice rang out.
"Wait."
Another person entered the elevator.
Gu You's eyes lit up. It was the same female soldier who had first brought him to the camp—the young major. This time, she had removed her heavy coat, wearing only the crisp white uniform underneath. The fabric was pressed without a wrinkle, and the golden epaulettes on her shoulders enhanced her commanding presence.
"Major!" the lieutenant saluted immediately with a fist to her chest. The major did the same, though the gesture seemed oddly unfitting for a woman. She had a tall, slender figure, striking beauty, and a kind of heroic aura rarely seen in most women. That didn't stop her from being well-developed, and when she struck her chest, the effect was rather... pronounced. Gu You's mouth twitched awkwardly.
"I'll take over his assessment. You're dismissed," the major said calmly.
The lieutenant paused. "You're personally handling it?"
The major nodded. "Yes. I reviewed the details of his journey into the mountains. That's why I'll be conducting his assessment."
"Understood!" The lieutenant saluted once more and stepped out of the elevator.
The doors closed, and Gu You could feel that the elevator was descending. In this tight space, only he and the major remained.
Gu You cleared his throat. "Hello, Major. I'm—"
"Call me Commander," the major interrupted coldly.
"Oh, yes, Commander. Hello, Commander." Gu You corrected himself quickly.
"Attention!" she barked.
Huh?
Gu You was startled but immediately stood at attention. Her authoritative tone took some getting used to, but recalling what the lieutenant had said earlier, he decided to just bear with it.
The major said nothing more and didn't bother introducing herself. A short while later, the elevator chimed softly and the doors opened.
What lay beyond was a metallic corridor. After a left turn, the major led Gu You into a room that made his eyes widen in surprise.
This place… looked very familiar.
It looked almost exactly like the entrance to the Spirit Ascension Platform used by the Spirit Pagoda—specifically, the beginner-level platform. Around the room were several glass capsules, clearly sized to hold people.
The major walked to a control console and started operating it. Her hands flew across the keyboard at high speed, a string of crisp tapping sounds echoing through the room.
Two of the glass capsules opened, and the instruments throughout the room lit up.
"You've been to the Spirit Ascension Platform before?" the major asked without looking back.
"Uh… yeah. I've been there," Gu You answered honestly.
The major nodded. "Your test will be similar to that. Your mission is simple—protect me inside until the assessment ends."
"Alright." Gu You nodded and walked toward one of the capsules.
As he moved, the major narrowed her eyes slightly, then quickly followed him.
"One reminder—your soul power won't work inside. You'll only be able to use the weapon you chose. Understood?"
"Understood." Gu You didn't take it seriously. With his physical strength alone, he could punch monsters into paste.
As the glass capsule closed around him, metal plates pressed against his body, securing him in place. The interior brightened.
It had been a long time since Gu You had entered a Spirit Ascension-type environment. He closed his eyes, quietly sensing the changes around him. A tingling sensation flowed from his limbs into his brain, his body trembling before his mind went blank.
Faintly, Gu You could feel the surge of electricity, data fluctuations, and spatial energy distortions.
These were things he couldn't sense in the past, but now that his spiritual power had reached the Spirit Domain realm, he could perceive them clearly.
There was no discomfort. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself standing in a snowy field, holding the soul-guided rifle he had chosen. What shocked him most was that the area looked exactly like the camp he had just visited.
A simulation? It was practically a replica of the actual place—pretty interesting.
But what really caught his eye was a massive pit beside him. It was bottomless, shrouded in darkness, and strange, unknown auras seemed to rise from within.
Focusing inward, he confirmed that his soul power had indeed vanished—his soul power vortex seemed to be entirely gone. Fortunately, his bloodline energy remained as strong as ever, so he wasn't at a disadvantage.
Just then, a flash of light appeared beside him, and the female major emerged.
"You got here fast," she said with mild surprise.
"Was that… fast?" Gu You asked in return.
The major's expression leveled. She pointed at the abyss nearby. "Jump in."
"Oh." Without hesitation, Gu You leapt straight into the pitch-black hole.
The major followed close behind.
As they fell, darkness swallowed everything around them. Gu You's eyes gleamed with a purple glow—the signature of his Purple Demon Eyes.
This truly was a cavern. The walls surrounding them were uneven and jagged, and…
