A four-ring Soul Ancestor—that was the minimum requirement to join the Blood God Legion. This kind of entry threshold was unheard of even in the most demanding sects. And it wasn't enough to simply be a Soul Tool Master—one had to be a genuine Soul Master.
In battles against Abyssal creatures, weapons were often just auxiliary tools. If one didn't have sufficient strength, they simply couldn't sustain prolonged combat.
Fighting for extended periods on high-altitude plateaus in a land of ice and snow was a massive test of both physical strength and mental endurance. While less than half of those who entered the Legion made it to retirement, many were actually eliminated early due to mental breakdowns.
Retirement and elimination were not the same. Retired Blood God Legion officers were the cream of the crop, highly sought after by military divisions across the Federation. Those eliminated, however, weren't even allowed to claim they'd once served in the Blood God Legion.
Ten years—a long time in a person's life.
Many influential families did everything they could to send their most talented descendants into the Blood God Legion. Their sole purpose: to sharpen them over those ten years. Anyone who managed to complete the decade-long service was likely to become a pillar of their family in the future.
Many of the top figures in the Federation's military, whether hawks or doves, had emerged from the Blood God Legion. While the current Supreme Commander of the Federation hadn't served in the Legion himself, his son was there now.
That alone showed just how many powerful Soul Masters resided within the Legion. Even a special forces regiment could easily have a hundred Soul Kings—or more. And in an average regiment, the number of Soul Ancestors was probably impossible to count.
'Ten years, huh?'
Gu You clenched his fist, silently setting a goal for himself. In those ten years, he would rise to become a high-ranking officer no matter what. At the same time, he would elevate his personal strength to the level of an Extreme Douluo, maybe even touch the threshold of godhood.
And then… he would cut down the final two Level One Gods in this world. Only then could he truly pursue his grand ambitions.
For the next week, Gu You followed Long Yuxue in studying everything about the Abyssal Race.
There was a vast amount to learn about beings from another plane—their classifications, innate traits, combat characteristics, and critical strategies for fighting in and around the spatial rift. Every piece of knowledge was vital.
But for Gu You, this kind of training felt almost easy. It was all theory. With his current level of spiritual power, he learned incredibly quickly.
Long Yuxue was astonished. Not only was this guy handsome and powerful in battle, but his mind was also razor sharp. Everything she taught, he absorbed instantly. He could even draw inferences and raise insightful questions—some so sharp that she had to consult her own father to answer them properly.
By the end of the week, the two had become quite familiar with one another. Gu You had also gained a deeper understanding of the Blood God Legion's internal structure.
Though called a "Legion," the Blood God force only consisted of two divisions. One was called the Blood Division—a name that symbolized fighting to the death without retreat. It was the direct combat force against the Abyssal creatures. The commander of the Blood Division was none other than Major General Xu Weitao.
The other was the Divine Division, a special operations group. It included mech combat battalions, heavy weapons units in charge of defense, and various auxiliary forces.
Each of the two divisions had five regiments, putting them on par with an independent division in structure. Though Gu You hadn't met many people, the entire Blood God Legion—combatants and support staff included—numbered over 25,000. Not as many as standard legions, but every single person was an elite.
For context, a major legion like the Northern Legion typically contained three armies—nearly 100,000 troops. The fact that the Blood God Legion, with a quarter of that number, could still be structured as a full legion showed just how important—and fearsome—it was.
Long Yuxue had once told Gu You proudly, "If the Blood God Legion were deployed, we could easily crush any other Federation force."
The harsh environment and constant real combat had turned this army into gods of war—unmatched in strength.
Gu You's unit, the Special Operations Division, belonged to the Divine Division. But it wasn't one of the five standard regiments—it reported directly to the command center and worked in tandem with the Legion's scientific research lab. They were often tasked with missions too dangerous or too complicated for the main combat forces. Naturally, only the most elite were allowed into Special Ops.
"You've basically absorbed everything about the Abyssals," Long Yuxue told him. "Now it's time to gain experience through real combat. For the next part of your training, I'll take you to observe the combat troops in action. You'll need to adapt quickly. Even though we're in Special Ops, sooner or later, you'll be assigned to frontline duty. Getting familiar now will help your future growth."
"Great. When do we leave?" Gu You asked, eager to begin.
"Tomorrow," Long Yuxue said. "By the way, how's your forge setup coming along? Don't let me down. I've bet everything I've got on you."
It was true—like a martial artist never letting their weapon rust, a blacksmith couldn't afford to stop practicing. But here in the heart of the Endless Mountain Range, resources were severely limited. There were only three smithing rooms in the entire Legion, used strictly for mech and gear repairs.
Gu You had high standards. He needed a top-tier forge platform, various auxiliary tools, and enough space to unleash his skills. Rare metals he had in abundance, but the equipment?
Without military merit, there was no way he could claim those resources.
That's where Long Yuxue came in.
Using her own merit points and personal connections, she secured Gu You a forge. And her condition wasn't a traditional loan—with interest. No, she wanted a stake: 50% of all his earnings from blacksmithing.
Normally, with how stingy Gu You was, he never would've agreed. But as a newcomer unfamiliar with the Legion, and seeing how genuinely Long Yuxue was helping him…
