Chapter 338 - Chapter 338: Possession Demon

The black shadow seemed to be watching Gu You in return. It exuded no energy fluctuations whatsoever. Gu You's pupils gradually narrowed into vertical slits as a terrifying aura of Destruction radiated from his body.

The shadow instantly retreated and vanished.

'That's too strange. I'll stop here for today.'

Gu You frowned, then transformed into a streak of multicolored light and left.

On the way back, he sped up. It took him less than a third of the time he'd spent getting there to exit the Abyssal Passage and return to the Blood God Battalion.

"Xue Yi, do you have a moment? I made a discovery."

"Come over."

After contacting Xue Yi, Gu You headed to the main hall of the Blood God Battalion to wait. It wasn't long before Xue Yi emerged from his room.

Gu You recounted everything he had experienced.

As he listened, Xue Yi's expression changed rapidly. "You went into the Abyss again? And this time, you encountered a Possession Demon?"

"Possession Demon…" Gu You murmured, the name sounding vaguely familiar as something clicked in his mind.

Xue Yi stared at him intently. Only after a long silence did he speak solemnly. "Do you know what kind of disaster the Possession Demons brought us when the Abyss first descended upon us?"

Gu You shook his head. He had heard the name before, but he knew nothing about what had happened back then.

A trace of pain flickered in Xue Yi's eyes. "The Possession Demons occupy the seventh layer of the Abyssal Plane. They're one of the most powerful types of abyssal creatures. They themselves don't possess strong combat power, and they exist in spiritual form. But they have one terrifying innate ability—possession!"

"Possession Demons are spiritual beings. No one knows how they're born. Because they have no life essence or energy signature and are extremely adept at hiding, they're very hard to detect. By the time you sense something is off, you may already be possessed."

He paused for a moment before continuing. "Once possessed, you fall under their control. Anyone below the Spirit Domain level in mental power has no chance of resisting. Even if you're at the Spirit Domain Realm, it will still severely affect you—you'd have to devote all your strength to resisting, and during that time, you'd be immobilized."

"Six thousand years ago, during our first great war against the Abyss, we didn't understand their abilities. Dozens of our top powerhouses were possessed. As a result, several Limit Douluo were inexplicably killed by the enemy, and many Titled Douluo switched sides mid-battle. If not for that, we wouldn't have suffered such devastating losses. That battle wiped out nearly half the continent's elites."

"It wasn't until many years later, after countless confrontations, that we finally discovered the Possession Demons' fear of life energy. Only with an extremely rare life crystal on one's person could one avoid being possessed. But by then, the damage was already done. What's even more terrifying is that they're practically unkillable. Physical attacks, spiritual assaults, energy strikes—none work. In fact, external energy attacks get absorbed and used against us…"

Xue Yi went on, "Fortunately, despite their immense threat, their numbers are extremely limited. And according to our research, each Possession Demon can only possess three times in its lifetime. So they won't use their possessions lightly. Once they succeed, they gradually take over the host's entire body and soul, turning their abilities into their own and adding their own powers as well."

"You're lucky. The one you met probably hasn't possessed anyone yet. If it had already possessed a human, it would've been vastly more powerful—and much harder to deal with. The invisible ones are dangerous. But the visible ones? Far worse."

"I understand. Thank you for explaining it, sir."

Over the next few days, Gu You continued competing—alternating between Soul Master battles one day and Mecha battles the next.

The breaks between rounds in the Star Battle Network were becoming shorter and shorter.

Gu You, as a top-seeded favorite, had made it out of his region as the first-place qualifier, advancing to the top sixteen in the Soul Master bracket. In the Mecha category, he had achieved the same result. At this point, he was nearing the finals. In fact, he was now in the final stage.

There weren't many matches left. But his remaining opponents were all among the strongest of the Federation's younger generation—basically the strongest under Four-Word Battle Armor Masters.

Gu You knew two of his opponents from the final rounds—both were from the Legion.

What surprised him was that Ma Shan wasn't one of them.

Despite his power—an eight-ring Soul Douluo and a Three-Word Battle Armor Master—Ma Shan had failed to make it out of the group stage. That was unexpected.

But in the finals, Gu You did see some familiar faces. Among them, one person was more familiar than any other…

Sitting cross-legged in her quiet cultivation chamber, Ye Xinglan had her eyes closed. Even in meditation, she emanated a sharp and awe-inspiring aura.

Her navy-blue uniform marked her as a member of the Navy.

She and Xu Lizhi had earned their spots in this elite unit through their own abilities—admitted during the new recruit selection for the Federation's Eastern Sea Fleet, known as the "Invincible Armada." It was the strongest fleet in the entire Federation.

In terms of sheer numbers, the Eastern Sea Legion didn't far exceed the Northern Sea Legion. But in terms of personnel strength and equipment, the Eastern Sea side far outclassed them. It was truly the elite of the elite.

Behind the Eastern Sea Fleet stood the Federation's Temple of War—the purest force under the Federation Parliament's direct control.

The Eastern Sea Legion was commanded by a full General—one of the true heavyweights of the military.

Its guiding principle was simple: meritocracy. If you had talent, this was the easiest place to rise through the ranks. No one dared commit nepotism under the Temple of War's watch. The Eastern Sea Legion also valued personal combat strength above all.

Ye Xinglan had found her own path. She and Xu Lizhi had chosen to enlist. Though as Shrek Academy's prodigies, they didn't have to take this road, they each had their own ambitions. The changes and experiences of recent years had led them to pursue different futures.

After joining the Eastern Sea Fleet, the command hoped Ye Xinglan would one day reach Titled Douluo rank and help Xu Lizhi break through as well. Currently, there were only two documented food-type Titled Douluo on the continent—both over eighty years old and no longer eligible for active service…
