The three weakest among the nine Blood Gods couldn't hold on and coughed up blood in unison.
Blood One's face darkened. With a swift motion of his right hand, three swords of Mercilessness shot out, hovering precisely over the weak points of the seal.
But it was too late.
In that very instant, the seal that had just begun to reknit was forcefully torn open once more. Dense black energy burst forth, flooding the tunnel and coalescing into countless Abyssal creatures. Like a tidal wave of darkness, they surged madly toward the tunnel's exit. Amid this horde, no fewer than five Abyssal Emperors emerged.
At the center of them stood a striking figure—one that closely resembled a human woman. She wore a fitted black bodysuit, sleek and deadly, and behind her spread two jet-black wings. Her beauty was otherworldly, and her long black hair fanned out behind her like a shimmering halo. But her eyes—those icy, piercing eyes—held nothing but death and cruelty.
As her gaze swept forward, it was as if she could see through everything. With a casual gesture of her right hand, she pointed toward the tunnel's exit. Instantly, the Abyssal army surged forward with even greater madness.
"Black Empress!" Zhang Huanyun's expression shifted dramatically as he immediately recognized her.
After more than six thousand years of conflict with the Abyssal Plane, the Blood God Legion had compiled extremely comprehensive data on the Abyssal creatures.
Though the Abyssal Emperors were usually unable to descend in person and could only manifest projections during the periodic Abyssal tides, those projections had revealed enough for humans to classify and name many of the 108 Emperors of the Abyss.
The Black Empress was among the most infamous.
She had appeared more times than almost any other Emperor. She ruled the ninth level of the Abyss, and her status was second to none within her kind. Known as the matriarch of the Black Sovereign Clan, she possessed power at the half-god level. Her might was said to rival that of a human Limit Douluo equipped with a four-word battle armor. Even her projections had caused devastating incidents in the past.
That her true form had now descended spoke volumes about the Abyssal Plane's determination in this invasion.
The Black Empress seemed to have heard Zhang Huanyun's words. She slowly raised her head, her gaze meeting his.
In that moment, Zhang Huanyun felt as though twin needles had pierced his eyes.
Though he had recently broken through to become a Limit Douluo, his foundation was still shallow. Compared to the likes of the Merciless Douluo—or a true behemoth like the Black Empress—he was still lacking.
The fact that the Abyssal Plane had managed to transmit her body to this world... What if the other top-ten Emperors followed? That would be an unstoppable catastrophe.
Fortunately, the seal—strained as it was—had begun to re-stabilize under the pressure of the Blood God Array. The deep Abyssal energy that maintained the spatial rift had thinned slightly. It was unlikely they would be able to send more Emperors through in quick succession.
The five newly arrived Emperors did not rush to attack. Instead, they hovered in formation with the Black Empress at the center, observing the battlefield with icy detachment.
Below them, an endless stream of Abyssal creatures poured forth like a tidal wave, hammering the human defenses. The burden on the defensive line surged. Only thanks to the coordinated efforts of the nine Blood Gods had the seal not collapsed entirely.
But the deep tunnel had now transformed into a battlefield engulfed in chaos—saturated with overlapping energy storms, fire, and death.
Every slain Abyssal creature exploded into thick Abyssal energy, which in turn attacked the seal with corrosive force. And the next wave charged over their remnants with suicidal madness.
There could be no doubt—human technology had advanced tremendously in six thousand years. Back then, the most powerful soul-guided weapon available was the ninth-grade fixed-installation soul cannon. Now, they had reached twelfth-grade.
Although the Blood God Legion was not part of the Federation's formal military hierarchy, the Federation Parliament had never dared to reduce their support. The Abyss was the highest-level classified threat. Guaranteeing the Blood God Legion's full combat capability had always been a top priority.
Therefore, the Legion's arsenal—whether defenses or weapons—was at the absolute forefront of modern soul-guided technology. Some of it was still in experimental phases, adjusted and refined through years of battle in the branch passages.
With their current firepower, even facing Abyssal Emperors directly was no longer a suicide mission. The problem was not in killing—it was in killing them permanently.
The Abyssal Plane's greatest terror had always been that its creatures simply didn't die.
Zhang Huanyun, the Mirror Douluo, stood motionless. Despite his six decades of fighting the Abyss, his heart now trembled slightly.
His experience was extensive—but ultimately still limited. He had never fought an Abyssal Emperor's true body. Only Merciless Douluo had ventured deep enough into the Abyss to test their strength.
The deaths of the Six-Clawed Demon Emperor and the Ant Emperor had been a great morale boost. But now, five more Emperors had arrived—and none of the current weapons would be enough. It would take more—something bigger. Perhaps weapons of mass destruction.
But even then, how strong was the Black Empress exactly? She ranked ninth among all Abyssal Emperors. As matriarch of one of the Abyss's most fearsome clans, her appearance alone was enough to cause dread across the entire Blood God Legion.
Even a single member of the Black Sovereign Clan appearing in a branch tunnel was considered a disaster. Now, the clan's Empress had come.
Her race was rare, but their individual strength was unmatched—among the top five in the Abyss by average combat power.
Zhang Huanyun had once fought a Black Sovereign in his youth. He still remembered how utterly he'd been overwhelmed. That had only been a lesser one.
This one was the Empress.
The thunder of cannon fire became unending. The roar of soul cannons and soul-guided railguns never ceased. Blood God Legion soldiers operated with calm precision, rotating out weapon batteries, slotting in new energy cells. Backup weapons were already being deployed.
"Corrosion bombs, ready," Zhang Huanyun said, face like still water, his tone utterly composed.
A massive cylindrical soul-guided weapon—more than thirty meters in diameter—began to rumble into position...
