Chapter 374 - Visitors Who Shouldn't Exist

Within the vanguard of the Falmuth Kingdom were three visitors from another world.

Their names were Shogo Taguchi, Kyoya Tachibana, and Kirara Mizutani.

Shogo and Kyoya were male.

Kirara was female.

They were, technically speaking, Rimuru's compatriots.

But unlike Rimuru-

These three were scum.

"This is insane."

Shogo stared ahead, eyes wide.

"This town is more advanced than any city in the Falmuth Kingdom."

After separating from the hundred-plus knights escorting them, the three had only kept a single coachman knight to drive their carriage. The rest had been dismissed so they could "tour" the city freely.

What they saw exceeded every expectation.

The streets were clean.

Too clean.

There was no stench, no filth. A functioning sewage system was obvious at a glance.

And that wasn't all.

The residents didn't look like monsters.

They walked openly through the streets, confident, relaxed, no different from humans. Their clothing was clean, well-made, even elegant. Better than what most merchants and citizens wore in Falmuth's major cities.

The streets were filled with adventurers.

Commerce flourished.

The city pulsed with life.

It was prosperous.

"...What a joke."

As the initial shock faded, something darker rose in Shogo's chest.

"How can those low-life monsters live better than us?"

His teeth clenched.

Kirara felt the same irritation twist in her gut.

"This is disgusting," she said flatly. "Why do they get to live like this when we never did?"

"Just looking at it pisses me off."

Kyoya spoke calmly, trying to sound reasonable.

"Don't get worked up, Kirara. There's no need to lower yourself to their level."

But even as he said it, his eyes narrowed.

This city was far too developed.

"I remember their leader is a slime, right?" Shogo said suddenly.

"If we kill him, we can just take over."

"That's a great idea!" Kirara replied instantly. "I'm in."

"I agree," Kyoya said after a pause. "But acting without permission might be risky."

"It's fine," Shogo scoffed. "Aren't we supposed to cause trouble before the knight corps attacks anyway?"

"This is perfect."

"Right," Kirara said, smiling. "They want proof, don't they?"

"Proof that monsters attacked innocent citizens."

She tilted her head.

"I'll just use Troublemaker. Then all the adventurers who aren't monsters will do whatever I say."

"It's an easy win."

She wasn't wrong.

That was the entire reason they had been sent here.

Their task was simple.

Stir up conflict.

Claim the monsters were hiding their true nature.

Stage an "attack."

Once that happened, the Falmuth army could march in under the banner of justice and slaughter everything.

War would begin.

And the blame would fall entirely on the monsters.

A perfect excuse.

Shogo, Kyoya, and Kirara were nothing more than bait.

Troublemaker was Kirara Mizutani's unique skill.

When she was first summoned, she had no combat ability. Only a strange power that influenced others through speech and negotiation.

Because of that, she had been labeled a failure.

Disrespected.

Discarded.

At the time, Kirara snapped.

"What a joke," she had screamed. "A bunch of trash."

"Anyone who looks down on me-die."

The effect had been immediate.

Those who couldn't resist her will took their own lives.

That was Troublemaker.

With words alone, Kirara could impose her commands.

Language didn't matter.

Resistance didn't matter.

Her will was absolute.

It took the summoner intervening with a suppression spell to stop the massacre.

Until then, lives had ended one after another.

Human life meant nothing to her.

"You two are hopeless," Kyoya said lightly. "But Lord Razen did give us this order."

He genuinely believed this was the fastest, simplest method.

"Tch. Why call that old geezer 'Lord'?" Shogo spat.

"Exactly," Kirara sneered. "I wish that old pervert would hurry up and die."

"Then we'd be free."

Kyoya smiled awkwardly.

"It's just a habit. Besides, if I slip up one day and say the wrong thing in front of him, that would be troublesome."

He had no intention of exposing his true nature yet.

"Any excuse will do," Shogo said. "Just cause trouble."

"Use Kirara's power. Make the adventurers side with us."

"Then we move together."

That was Razen's order.

"All right," Shogo said, fixing his rooster-comb hairstyle hardened with resin. "Let's get started."

Kirara moved first.

"Kyaa!"

She deliberately bumped into a guard.

"It was you! You touched my butt, didn't you?"

"Are you trying to assault me?!"

The goblin guard froze.

"I-I didn't do anything?"

Gobje looked around desperately, his face pale, eyes searching for help.

"What are you playing dumb for?" Kirara snapped.

"Why did you ambush me? Explain yourself!"

She pushed him verbally, then exaggeratedly stumbled backward.

"Ow!"

"Help! Someone help me!"

"Call the guards!"

"M-misunderstanding!" Gobje cried.

"I didn't do anything! I-I'm a guard!"

Tears welled in his eyes.

He was completely bewildered.

He truly had done nothing.

But the looks around him changed.

Suspicion.

Discomfort.

His dull expression didn't help.

Kirara casually activated Troublemaker.

"Hey... isn't that goblin attacking her?"

"He's a guard, though. He's always protected us."

"But he pushed her, didn't he?"

"I thought monsters here were well-behaved."

"There were no problems before. Why now?"

The crowd wavered.

Doubt spread.

No one stepped forward to defend Gobje.

Shogo and Kyoya exchanged glances.

Smiling, they stepped in.

"Hey, hey," Shogo shouted. "Is this how you treat guests?"

"You invite us here and then attack us?"

"You monsters really are filthy, aren't you?"

Kyoya followed smoothly, shielding Kirara.

They planned to corner the guard.

Frame him.

Wait for his superior.

If the superior apologized, they'd twist it.

If he got angry, even better.

Either way, chaos would spread.

Once the knight corps arrived, they'd take over.

In Shogo's mind, the best outcome was simple.

He hoped the monster would attack.

But-

Things didn't go as planned.

"What's going on here?"

A voice cut through the noise.

Gobta appeared.

Fully armed.

Mounted atop Ranga, his wolf looming behind him.

His gaze was cold.

And fixed squarely on Shogo and the others.

The air shifted.
