Chapter 5 - 5

Scarlett

Bret let out a low growl. "Release her." He ordered. Immediately, I was set free. "Let's get out of here." Brianna said. "You got lucky." Bret said to me, looking over his shoulder at me. "And you're a coward." I resorted. He slapped me hard across the face. "Let that be a warning to watch your wagging tongue." He and his clique left after.

I sat down there a while, trying to get myself together. My life was getting worse every passing second, all because of one person. My mind wandered to what I was going to face the moment I get back home. I finally managed to pull myself up. I picked up my bag then brought out my phone. It was 6:30pm. Already the sky was turning dark. I heaved a heavy sigh then start heading home.

In thirty minutes, I found myself standing in front of my house door. I took a really deep breath then walked in. First face I saw was Miranda's, my aunt. "Where have you been?" she asked not actually wanting to hear my response. I didn't bother answering. "B****! Didn't you hear her question?!" her husband, Henry roared at me.

I ignored them both again finding my way into the kitchen. "Come back here you s***! I'm talking to you!" Henry yelled. I heard Mira say something that shut up his barking mouth. I pulled the fridge open, it was empty. Slamming it shut, I headed over to my uncle's secret food cabinet. It's not much of a secret since he boldly plastered a label across it. Opening it, I find only one box of Chinese take out.

"We'll make it work." I said to myself. With the takeout in hand, I exited the kitchen. I walked past both adults seated in the living room and found my way to the stairs. Henry recognized the box in my hand. "Criminal that's mine!" he screamed. "Henry, do stop barking. I already know you're a dog." I said, a small smile on my face. "It seems someone wants me ratting Mackenzie out." Mira said holding up her phone. My jaw ticked with how hard I clenched at it. "Behave." she said in a warning tone.

I stormed up to the attic and slam the door shut. The little space is what I'm given as a room even though the documents of the house have my name on them. I tossed the cold takeout into my microwave and started heating it up. While that's going on, I moved towards the small window infront of me that directly opposite the door I just walked through. The full moon was out. I sighed at it.
