Evangelin’s mischievous demeanor had disappeared, replaced by a serious expression as she fixed her sunken chestnut eyes on Amoretta.
“ ’I’m relieved to see that you managed to escape from Lyshan unscathed, and I’m grateful that you kept the promise we made five years ago. I’m glad to see that you’re doing well.’ ”
Her voice was hushed, barely audible over the rustling of the wind and the chirping of insects.

Amoretta’s purple eyes widened at the mention of the name, dredging up memories from long ago.
“ ‘Come see me if you ever find yourself unhappy staying with the crown prince,” Evangelin continued, extending something toward Amoretta. ‘
“This is…!”
Amoretta gasped, her heart racing as she recognized the object in Evangelin’s hands. It was the incense pouch she had given to her savior five years ago. She had never expected to see it again, let alone meet its owner.
