Apollonia wore a bitter smile as she wiped the blood off the golden armrest of the throne. After taking a deep breath, she turned to sit on the magnificent imperial seat.
“Finally…” she proclaimed, lifting the velvet crown held in her hand. “I have reclaimed the place that always rightfully belonged to me.”
Placing the blood-stained crown upon her golden hair, she gazed down upon her knights, allies, followers, and even the people beyond the temple walls.
In that very moment, the flames of the altar flared even brighter.
As tradition dictated, the sun that had hung on the horizon vanished completely as soon as the new monarch wore the crown.
“Long live Her Majesty,” declared Uriel, who stood nearest to her.
He dropped his sword and knelt on one knee.
This was the moment he had long been waiting for, almost as much as Apollonia herself.
“Long live Her Majesty!”
