Chapter 29 - You Debriefed Them Already?

She nodded numbly, her eyes unfocused, her fingers gripping the edge of a bullet-ridden laptop. Alex touched her chin briefly, a thumb brushing away the tear-stained trail along her cheek.

The elevator dinged. Moments later, a crisp, efficient medical team entered. Dressed in dark navy uniforms with medical kits slung over their shoulders.

Alex stepped away from Eva and rose to his full height. For a brief second, his gaze lingered on her. Then he turned on his heel and stormed out of the apartment.

The hallway lights caught the sharp cut of his jaw as he moved with purposeful strides. His coat flared behind him, his rage barely contained. He walked like danger itself.

By the time he reached downstairs, Fred was already there, leaning against the side of the car.
