Thanos wiped out half of the universe.
The energy emission from the combined Infinity Stones changed many people forever.
A small percentage of human population has an extra gene from normal humans. But only a few awaken naturally, like Charles Xavier, Eric Lehnsherr (Magneto), and Scott.
But the energy from Infinity Stones activated the extra gene in all the surviving humans who lived after the Snap.
Most of them didn't change in how they looked.
Hank wasn't lucky. He changed into a Blue hairy monster. His mother who survived the Snap abandoned him.
Thankfully, Xavier found him and brought him into X-mansion. Currently, Hank is busy calibrating the first prototype of Celebro so that Xavier can find and save other people like them.
But the range is too small. Only covering New York. Xavier's mental capabilities have declined over age. His skills are top-tier, but his range is not.
So, for a 17 year old girl who barely got by working for a drug cartel in LA with her family, turning into a blue freak amidst mass panic wasn't really an ideal situation.
Especially since her family threw her into the streets.
It took her some time, around an year, but she got used to her new self. Her abilities.
Her Mystique.

Dr Kisinger looked at the 18 other leaders of Flag-smashers after Carli and her partner were arrested.
Carli had given the intel where these Super Soldier serums were created. But hid the fact that there were 18 still lying around.
It wasn't easy for Carli to become the leader of a terrorist organisation. She knew the guy who made the Super Soldier Serum, and had a monopoly over who gets it.
Honestly, she could have been a way more terrifying terrorist if not for the fact that she was way more stupid than normal humans, a trait shared by most terrorists.
These 18 guys were to be rewarded the Super Soldier Serum by her close friend Dr Kisinger for having the biggest building blow-up count. That's easier to count than the number of innocent people they have killed.
Dr Kisinger injected the serums into the new leaders who will break out Carli and her partner from prison.
But, instead of super-strength, they became super-dead.
Kisinger just dumped those injections in the dustbin, and transformed into Mystique.
Mystique supported the Flag-smashers.
The mansion she was occupying and living freely without anyone judging her blue skin, by taking the blipped owner's identity, suddenly had its owners return.
So she killed him, and continued using his identity.
And she has decided that she wouldn't remain like this any longer.
She wants to save people like her, both Mutants and the people who were kicked out of the houses they were occupying, and the illegal immigrants who moved freely during these 5 years will be thrown back to their countries if the resolution at Global Repatriation Council passes.
Many have already died due to their mismanagement. Much more will die of the resolution passes.
She took the real Super Soldier Serum herself and hid the remaining 17 in 'her' house.
Well, she has now gotten rid of the most extreme ones of this terrorist group.
And now, she will lead this group to its true purpose instead of blowing up buildings and killing innocent people.
Afterall, she does need manpower for her operations.
"Which face should I use?"
She wondered, and decided a random face would be enough. These disorganised unintelligent bunch just needs to be shown that she is a powerful Flag-smasher, and they will follow.
She looked in her phone, and found the perfect person to play this part.
Jean Grey, who has been missing and her parents and sister have been posting about her across all social media.
She is really beautiful girl. And beauty let Wanda get away from causing Hulk to rampage to a large extent.
Jean Grey hasn't been found yet, but her family was killed by Flag-smashers.
Looking at Jean Grey's photo as a 10 year old, she imagined herself what she would look like at 15.
Her face transformed, looking almost 95% like Jean, since Mystique knows faces too well.
"Alright. Jean Grey is going to be the new leader of Flag Smashers."
