Chapter 33 - Not the way you think

Matthew was sitting on the edge of the bed, his shadow stretching across the sheets beside me. His presence felt so solid, so warm, it made the air around me feel tighter. Then his hand reached out and brushed my cheek, and I froze. Heat rushed to my face, and before I could even process the look in his eyes, he was leaning in. Just inches away. Then his lips were on mine.

My heart went wild, like, full-on galloping in my chest. I couldn't control it. It felt strange and familiar all at once, this confusing mix of comfort and chaos. His kiss was soft, warm, honest. There was this faint sweetness to it, something that made me want to sink deeper into it. And for a moment, I let myself fall. I let the feeling wrap around me, no resistance.
