At this moment, the satellite image suddenly zoomed in!
The man on the screen suddenly raised his head and looked directly at them!
Nick Fury instinctively sat up straight, a chill running down his spine!
Even though they were separated by a screen, he clearly felt the man's gaze pierce through it—as if it was directly focused on him!
And it wasn't just him. Every agent in the cabin felt it at that exact moment.
It was eerie... terrifying!
Maria Hill's face turned pale. Her throat went dry. She took a deep breath and cautiously asked:
"Director, are we going down?"
"Thor is with him. They should've been teleported here via the Bifrost," she added.
Nick Fury gritted his teeth. As the representative of Earth, he couldn't afford to show weakness. He had to go down there.
But just then, on the enlarged image on the screen, the man silently mouthed two words:
"No need."
Simple. Direct. And everyone understood it.
The very next second, space at the bridge began to distort like a Rubik's Cube, shifting and realigning!
And when the "cube" reassembled...
The two figures from the screen had vanished—and appeared directly in the cabin!
Nick Fury's pupils shrank to the size of pinpoints, and his heartbeat surged violently!
He glanced around. Every agent's face was frozen with shock—and fear they couldn't hide.
Gulp—
Someone swallowed hard. In the silence, the sound was unnervingly clear.
Thor, noticing how tense everyone had become, quickly stepped forward and said:
"Relax, everyone."
"Nick Fury, this is... well, this is Russell—one of the gods of Asgard."
"He holds a position equivalent to my father, Odin. He came to Earth this time to help humanity."
To be honest, even though he was familiar with Russell, Thor felt awkward calling him Uncle Luo in front of so many people. It just didn't feel appropriate. By introducing him this way, he was also making it clear to the others what kind of respect this man commanded.
As soon as Thor said that, the atmosphere in the room visibly eased.
The fear in the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents' eyes diminished, replaced by reverence and awe.
Although they had never seen Odin with their own eyes, they'd heard enough—both from myths and from Thor—that he was the King of the Gods.
And now this person—Russell—was said to be on equal footing with Odin.
That alone was enough to strike awe into anyone.
As for his strength?
They'd just witnessed it with their own eyes.
For a moment, many of the agents even felt a sense of honor:
"I actually got to see a true god-level being up close."
Nick Fury gave Thor a grateful look and breathed a sigh of relief. A calm, composed smile returned to his face as he took the initiative to walk up to Russell and formally say:
"Hello, Mr. Russell."
"I'm Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. It's an honor to meet you."
Russell nodded in acknowledgment.
Fury didn't dare take offense at the minimal response, nor did he attempt any pleasantries. He went straight to the point:
"May I ask what brings you and Thor to assist humanity?"
"And... if possible, can you tell us what exactly happened during that fight earlier?"
Russell pointed to the dark, antlered crown lying nearby.
"That was one of the heralds of the Great Serpent—the ancient King of Fear."
"The Serpent has awakened, and in the near future, he will return to Earth... to feed on fear and rule over all life."
Just a few calm sentences—but they were enough to drain the color from every face in the room.
Nick Fury couldn't help but glance at Thor, and his heart sank when he saw Thor nod in confirmation.
Was that level of energy feedback really just from a pioneer?
He had initially suspected that the other party might be lying, but the sheer power displayed, along with Thor's affirmation, quickly dispelled that thought.
Taking a deep breath, his expression grew serious.
"Mr. Russell, since you brought Thor here, I assume there's something S.H.I.E.L.D. needs to do?"
"As long as it doesn't violate Earth's core principles, we'll cooperate."
Russell nodded in satisfaction.
He figured Loki's mind manipulation ability must have taken effect—otherwise, with Nick Fury's personality, he wouldn't have believed things so easily.
It was always better when things could proceed without trouble.
"It's very simple," Russell said in a tone that brooked no refusal.
"I want you to inform the public about the crisis ahead of time."
"You don't need to tell them who the King of Fear is. Just let them know: when the messenger of fear appears, they must not panic. Instead, call out the name of God in their hearts—and God will come to shatter the darkness."
Nick Fury's heart trembled.
"May I ask… what is the name of this God?"
Thor answered solemnly, "Who do you think it is?"
"It's obviously the man standing right in front of me!" Nick Fury quickly responded.
"I mean, of course I know it's you. But… doesn't the name of a god usually come with a title? Like, aren't you the God of Thunder?"
Thor scratched his head awkwardly. He wanted to explain that he was no longer just Thor.
At that moment, Russell casually interjected:
"Winter, fire, thunder, light… you can add any prefix you want to the four divine powers. It doesn't need to be complicated—just include my name."
Nick Fury froze for a moment, shock flooding his eyes as goosebumps prickled his skin.
Thor… Thor was already known to possess only one divine power!
But besides the temporary pillar of lightning from before, this man now claimed to hold four more powers?
Each one sounded terrifying on its own—and if just one of them was that powerful, the full extent of his strength was simply unimaginable!
Even Thor was more shaken than Nick Fury at that moment.
Because he knew that Russell also had the power of death.
That made it five divine powers!
This was utterly insane!
In all of Asgard's history, no such being had ever existed!
Now, he truly believed that even the All-Father, Odin, might not be a match for this man.
And judging from Russell's casual attitude—never even mentioning the title of "King of Gods"—Thor couldn't help but tremble with a horrifying thought:
Could it be that Russell still had even more powers he hadn't revealed yet!?
The very next second, Thor violently shook his head.
No! Impossible!
Absolutely impossible!
He must be overthinking things.
This was already beyond monstrous. If Russell had another power on top of this, it might as well be Gaea herself resurrected!
Nick Fury's forehead was drenched in sweat, and he felt a level of pressure he'd never experienced before.
This couldn't be explained away as "just" an alien encounter anymore.
After this crisis passed, it was very likely that countless humans would begin to believe in Norse mythology.
But even so, he didn't dare to object.
If the so-called "messenger of fear" truly arrived, this might be humanity's only hope of survival.
Having finished what he came to do, Russell didn't linger aboard the Helicarrier. His body transformed into a swirling green vortex and vanished.
Thor stayed behind to assist Nick Fury.
Two hours later...
A message that shocked the entire world was released!
Nightfall.
Liberty Square.
The lights in the Baxter Building blazed brightly.
This was the headquarters of the famous Fantastic Four.
On the 27th floor, a young man with short hair was lounging on the sofa, legs crossed, scrolling through short videos on his phone, a smug grin on his face.
Suddenly, as if he saw something amusing, he burst out laughing and called out to the stone-skinned figure lifting weights nearby:
"Is Nick Fury stupid? He actually created a Vulcan!?"
"If you ask me, I'd rather be the god of fire myself—hahaha!"
