As the group journeyed along the winding forest path, Pidgeot soared proudly above, Gyarados remained in his Poké Ball to avoid scaring travelers, and Rena walked gracefully at Alex's side.
But Alex's gaze often drifted down—to his smallest partner.
Charmander trotted faithfully beside him, eyes bright but shoulders drooping whenever he compared himself to the others. Against Rena's divine grace, Stormborn's terrifying presence, and Pidgeot's fiery might, he seemed almost fragile.
Alex crouched down, resting a hand on Charmander's head.
"You feel weak, don't you?"
Charmander looked away, ashamed, letting out a soft whimper.
"But that's why we'll train you. From today until Pewter, you'll fight every chance you get. I'll make sure you grow strong enough to stand proudly among them."
Charmander's eyes lit with determination, his tail flame flaring hotter.
And so, the training began.
Battles Along the Way
Every wild Pokémon encounter became a trial for Charmander.
Against swarms of Caterpie, he practiced Ember, until his fireballs burned with sharper precision.
Against Beedrill ambushes, he learned to dodge and counter, his agility growing sharper under pressure.
When faced with a wild Raticate, Alex pushed him to unleash his raw fighting spirit—awakening Dragon Rage for the first time.
Delia and Misty often worried as they watched Charmander stumble, take hits, and stand back up with shaky legs. But Alex never wavered.
"Strength is born from struggle," he reminded them. "And this one has a fire inside him that won't burn out."
By the time they reached the forest's edge, Charmander stood taller, his flame burning brighter than ever.
His level had risen rapidly—now standing at Level 30. The little lizard no longer looked timid; he burned with pride.

Arrival at Pewter City
The stone walls of Pewter came into view as the sun set behind the rocky cliffs. The city was sturdy, quiet, and built from the very mountains it rested upon.
At the entrance, Charmander puffed his chest proudly, while Misty admired the sight.
"This place feels… solid," she whispered.
Delia smiled gently. "It suits you, doesn't it, Alex? Strong, unshakable."
Alex didn't answer, his gaze already fixed on the looming Pewter Gym at the city's heart.
But first things first—they made their way to the Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy welcomed them warmly, offering fresh rooms and meals for both trainers and Pokémon.
As night fell, the team gathered in their shared quarters. Pidgeot rested with wings folded, Stormborn slumbered heavily in his Poké Ball, Rena stood silent but watchful, and Charmander lay curled up by Alex's bed—his flame glowing brighter than ever.
Tomorrow, the real test would begin.
The Pewter Gym awaited.
