"I searched along the riverbank in my area. There was no sign of him."
Jihl put his clothes back on, not caring that his body was still wet. While he did, more and more knights returned. Their horses were foaming at the mouth and panting heavily—it was clear they had been pushed hard.
But none of them had found Bao Bei. Could it be that Bao Bei hadn't been carried downstream from the waterfall after all?
"After they saw the waterfall and seemed to decide there was no need to search any further. They turned back," reported one of the subordinates who had been keeping an eye on their movements.
Jihl bit his lip hard.
Not yet. I'm not giving up yet.
"There was a branch stream before the waterfall, wasn't there? He might have gone that way."
One of the knights made the suggestion.
Could it be Bao Bei have changed direction and drifted into the branch stream when he saw the waterfall?
