"Kira, how many?" My voice broke as I walked through the ruins of the stronghold.
Her eyes were dark, her jaw was pressed together. "Too many."
"Too many mothers and too many children. They really hit us hard, Seraphina, too hard." She kicked a burning corpse of a shadow wolf aside.
I bent to lift the body of Aenya, the young priestess Darius had killed. Her face was already weak and her lips were opened as if she had tried to call for help, my chest was in so much pain.
