I jumped up from my crouched position when the door clicked open. It was past midnight already but I couldn't get any ounce of sleep. Not when I know what happened outside and not with the image and smell of blood still tingling the airs of my nostrils.
" How's she?". I asked, my voice showing how anxious and scared I was to know the answer.
I watched him as he took off his boot and placing them neatly in the shoe rack before he finally turned to me. He sighed, coming closer to where I was standing " I thought you'd be asleep now".
" Why would I—" I scoffed in disbelief ". I can't possibly sleep without knowing what condition she's in. Is she alright? Don't tell me she...". I couldn't complete my words as sobs raked out of me.
I saw him panicked through my teary eyes and in a second, he was closer to me, his huge hand awkwardly patting my back in what he seems to think was a hug.
" She's going to be ok. She went to a better place".
