Tala stepped through the automatic sliding glass doors of AML Dynamics, the very same doors she once swept through with the commanding grace of a queen.
She paused briefly at the entrance, the heavy silence of shame sinking deep into her bones like frostbite, as all eyes turned towards her.
Drawing a deep breath and swallowing the nausea clawing at her gut, she moved forward with steady, deliberate steps, blocking out every stare and whisper around her.
"Isn't that Tala Mendoza?"
"What the hell is she doing here this early?"
"Since when did the mighty Mendozas start respecting office hours?"
"I thought she vowed never to set foot in this building again."
"Maybe she's lost or maybe karma finally gave her directions."
Ridiculing whispers rose in the air like a cruel joke, each statement a weapon –sharp, loud and designed to humiliate.
