Chapter 127: Going All-In to Build the Ghost Turret
"So there really were ambushers."
Returning to the clan walls in a gliding posture, Konan's expression was grim. She turned to two clan officers and ordered, "Recall all players to the clan territory. Prepare to defend against the enemy assault."
In addition to the Kirigakure players, there were also Iwagakure shinobi and a number of rogue players.
They were gathering in scattered groups, slowly approaching Dawn Clan's territory—clearly with hostile intent.
"They've stopped buying heart materials and adhesives. Looks like Kirigakure has run out of reward points."
Konan pondered.
This attack revealed Kirigakure's depleted funds. As long as they could hold off the assault, the special reward would be guaranteed.
The problem was that Dawn Clan had only a few hundred players, while the enemy forces numbered close to a thousand.
It was going to be a tough battle.
"Upgrade the walls."
Without hesitation, Konan spent a massive amount of reward points. A faint white light enveloped the walls.
[Choose upgrade direction: Physical Defense Boost, Energy Defense Boost, Resistance Boost, Arrow Tower ×1...]
"Energy Defense Boost."
"Energy Defense Boost."
"Physical Defense Boost."
The majority of the attackers were from Kirigakure, and they specialized in water-based magic. Most of them were water mages.
Then came Iwagakure's fighters—brutish, heavily-armored melee types.
Konan upgraded the walls three times in a row, spending 80,000 reward points in the blink of an eye.
Even the Akatsuki, with years of accumulated wealth, were nearly drained dry after recent events. Kakuzu, their biggest moneymaker, had been killed by Mei Terumi.
Level 3 was the current limit for the clan wall.
Meanwhile,
Mei Terumi, robed in crimson mage attire, threw out a teleportation scroll worth 20,000 points.
Buzz.
A radiant teleportation circle appeared several hundred meters from Dawn Clan's territory.
Large Teleportation Scroll.
Once activated, it summoned a magic circle capable of long-distance transportation. It lasted for 30 minutes.
Each use consumed energy. Once depleted, the portal would vanish unless energy materials were used to recharge it.
[Teleportation Circle]
Level: Lv.1
Durability: 50/50
Remaining Energy: 300/300 points
"Whoever destroys Dawn Clan's monument gets 100,000 reward points!"
Mei's voice, laced with explosive flame energy, echoed in the ears of every player.
100,000 reward points!
Even regular players—let alone small factions—were visibly tempted.
"Dawn Clan may be strong, but they only have a few hundred players. How can they resist a joint attack from Kumo and Iwa?"
"The goal isn't to defeat their players. Just destroy their monument. Don't get in my way!"
The air became feverish with anticipation.
As always, nothing motivated players more than visible, shiny rewards. Even cannon fodder was worth being if the payoff was this big.
"Charge!"
A melee mage from Kirigakure led the charge, his feet surfing on a stream of water. In the blink of an eye, he reached the clan wall.
Dozens of players followed, their bodies glowing brightly with speed-boosting buffs.
"Archers, form ranks!"
On the wall stood forty players, each pulling a longbow from their backs and swiftly nocking arrows.
Dawn Clan's trained archer unit.
Compared to the melee combat unit, training archers was incredibly costly.
It depended heavily on soul potential.
Melee-focused players were easy to find. But players suited to archery were rare. Without natural talent, learning skills and leveling proficiency burned through reward points rapidly.
"Fire!"
A volley of arrows soared into the air.
Fletching shimmered—some tipped with flames and frost, others gleaming with cold steel or bursting into multishot clusters.
Elemental light and arrow trails interwove into a dense storm of projectiles.
"Shield block!"
"Iron Body!"
"Elemental Shield!"
...
Iwagakure and Kirigakure players responded quickly, raising barriers and defenses. Still, their formations grew messy.
Some without defensive skills were forced to take the hits.
After one round of volleys, over ten players were sent back to respawn.
"Where are our mages?! Get those archers off the wall!"
Bolts of lightning and fire slammed into the clan walls, causing chunks of masonry to fall away.
The wall's durability dropped rapidly.
Hundreds against nearly a thousand—without the wall, there was no holding out.
"Stone Giant!"
A hulking gray-black figure appeared in the center of the battlefield, nearly as tall as the wall itself.
Yellow Earth of Iwagakure stood on its shoulder, deflecting arrows with ease. He guided the golem forward, smashing a massive fist into the wall.
The Level 3 wall couldn't withstand the blow—its surface caved in violently.
Buzz.
A faint light shimmered. Dawn Clan had spent a fortune to instantly repair the damage.
Konan floated above, her expression cold. Her rune-covered paper wings fluttered as she slapped sealing tags onto the Stone Giant's head.
Slosh—
The tags burst open, unleashing torrents of water that condensed into spinning water blades, shredding the golem's head into mud.
Boom.
The Stone Giant collapsed.
Cheers erupted from Dawn Clan's players. Their leader's overwhelming strength gave them renewed hope.
Several newly promoted officers also stepped up, unleashing purple-tier skills and driving back wave after wave of enemies.
"We need to destroy their teleportation circle!"
Konan's brows furrowed.
If this dragged on, the cost of repairing the walls alone would bankrupt them.
But she couldn't leave. She had to stay and guard against a sudden ambush from Mei Terumi.
There was no official ranking yet,
but among the first batch of Samsara Game players, Mei—backed by Kirigakure—was likely the most powerful in the Ninja Newbie Village.
"Clan leader, we can't hold much longer!"
"This is a blueprint for a Ghost Turret. It was a limited-time reward from the monster siege event. But it needs a Level 5 wall to be built."
Konan took the blueprint, skimming through the Ghost Turret's info.
Her face wavered.
During the monster siege, players only had to pay for the blueprint. Since the wall belonged to the Newbie Village, Fang Yi covered material costs.
Now,
building one on a private clan territory cost 100,000 reward points to offset materials.
If she built it, Dawn Clan would be flat broke.
But if she didn't act now, the wall would collapse.
"Build it!"
Gritting her teeth, Konan unlocked the blueprint and selected a suitable spot on the wall. She paid the reward points and began construction.
[Construction: 30 minutes]
Prompt: Spend 20,000 reward points to skip the build time?
"Skip it."
The normally stoic and icy Konan could barely contain herself, practically snarling through clenched teeth.
Clank clank clank—
Mechanical parts spun into place. A hunk of metal rapidly unfolded into a fully operational Ghost Turret atop the wall.
BOOM!
A jet-black energy beam fired from the cannon and exploded across the chaotic battlefield.
Any player hit was instantly returned to the respawn point.
Blue-tier and below defense skills might as well have been paper.
The tide of battle shifted in an instant.
Before Konan could even celebrate—
After five blasts, the turret's energy was depleted.
And then came the system prompt:
Each energy shot costs 2,000 reward points.
Konan's breathing turned ragged with fury.
Damn Kirigakure. Damn Iwagakure.
And damn that bloodsucking Game Merchant!
