Then the Lord spoke again to Moses, saying:
"Speak to the people of Israel: When a woman conceives and gives birth to a son, she shall be unclean seven days, just as in the time of her monthly impurity. On the eighth day the boy shall be circumcised.
Afterward, she shall remain thirty-three days in the blood of her purification. She must not touch anything sacred, nor enter the sanctuary, until the days of her cleansing are fulfilled.
But if she bears a daughter, she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her time of impurity; then she shall continue sixty-six days in the blood of her purification.
And when the days of her cleansing are completed, whether for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting a year-old lamb for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon or dove for a sin offering. The priest shall present them before the Lord and make atonement for her, and she shall be purified from her flow of blood.
This is the law for the woman who gives birth to a male or a female child. But if she cannot afford a lamb, she may bring two doves or two young pigeons—one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. Thus the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean."
