Chapter 202 - Chapter 201: The Completion of the Land Division

The second lot was cast, and it fell to the tribe of Simeon, clan by clan. Their inheritance was located within the large territory of Judah, including the towns of Beersheba, Moladah, Hazar Shual, Balah, Ezem, Eltolad, Bethul, Hormah, Ziklag, Beth Marcaboth, Hazar Susah, Beth Lebaoth, Sharuhen, Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan—along with all the villages surrounding them as far as Baalath Beer (Ramah in the Negev). Because Judah's land was too large, part of it was given to Simeon as their share.

The third lot came out for Zebulun. Their boundary extended to Sarid, then west to Maralah, Dabbesheth, and the ravine near Jokneam. It turned eastward toward Kisloth Tabor, Daberath, and Japhia, continuing to Gath Hepher, Rimmon, and Neah before ending at the Valley of Iphtah El. The towns included Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem—twelve towns with their villages.

The fourth lot fell to Issachar, whose land included Jezreel, Shunem, Hapharaim, Rabbith, Kishion, and other towns up to Beth Shemesh by the Jordan—sixteen towns and their villages.

The fifth lot belonged to Asher. Their land stretched from Helkath and Beten to Carmel on the west, and up toward Sidon and Tyre on the north. The tribe's land reached all the way to the sea, including twenty-two towns with their villages.

The sixth lot went to Naphtali, whose border ran from Heleph to Lakkum, ending at the Jordan. Their land touched Zebulun to the south, Asher to the west, and included fortified cities such as Kedesh, Hazor, and Beth Shemesh—nineteen towns in total.

The seventh and last lot was drawn for Dan. Their inheritance included towns like Zorah, Eshtaol, Ekron, and Joppa. However, the Danites faced resistance in taking possession of their territory, so they marched north, attacked the city of Leshem, conquered it, and renamed it Dan, after their ancestor.

After all the divisions were completed, the Israelites gave Joshua son of Nun an inheritance among them, just as the Lord had commanded. He chose Timnath Serah in the hill country of Ephraim, rebuilt it, and lived there.

Thus, at Shiloh, in the presence of the Lord at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, Eleazar the priest, Joshua, and the leaders of Israel finished dividing the land. The long journey of inheritance had come to an end.
