Chapter 38 - Ch: 38

(Krillin's energy... it's gone.)

Lying in the dark of the cave, Lisette closed her eyes. Through her "Far-Sight," she had watched the battle with bated breath, hoping for a miracle that would deviate from the tragic script of destiny.

For a moment, it seemed possible. The combined might of a powered-up Piccolo and Goku had actually cornered Frieza. Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon had even dealt a significant wound. It was enough to make Lisette believe they might actually win without needing the legendary transformation.

But the result remained the same. Piccolo had fallen, and Krillin had been detonated. It seemed one final move was missing to truly break the cycle of fate.

Still, it wasn't a total failure. The awakening she had both feared and anticipated—the Super Saiyan—was now a reality. And Krillin could be brought back with the Namekian Dragon Balls. All that remained was for Goku to finish Frieza.

(...Wait, there are still a few problems, aren't there?)

The Dragon Balls weren't gathered yet. In the original story, they were transported to Earth after Namek's explosion, but she wasn't sure if that would happen if someone was currently holding them. Furthermore, she needed to ensure her friends made it off-world before Frieza decided to pull the trigger on the planet's core.

She still had work to do.

Fortunately, her body was starting to respond. She couldn't walk yet, but she could open a Gate and use her telekinesis. In her world, that was as good as a full recovery.

Lisette opened a rift in space, pulled a single Senzu Bean from her storage, and guided it into her mouth. Instantly, her torn muscles knit back together, her ruptured vessels sealed, and her energy reserves surged back to $100\%$.

Seriously, she thought, this bean is a complete cheat code.

She retrieved her white cape from sub-space and fastened it. She decided to leave her shoes and gloves off for now; while Cooler was gone, she didn't want any unnecessary weight if she had to move fast.

"Alright."

She was back at full strength. Unlike the Saiyans, she didn't get a power boost from near-death experiences, but she feltstronger—a psychological victory, if nothing else.

She pulled out the Dragon Radar. To her delight, five of the balls were clustered in a single location. She recognized the energy signature guarding them: Zarbon.

Why is he still alive? she wondered, tilting her head. Well, it doesn't matter.

Zarbon was a non-threat. She opened a Gate and reached her hand through, creating an exit portal right above the radar's coordinates. To Zarbon, it must have looked like a disembodied hand reached out of thin air and snatched his prizes. She pulled the five Dragon Balls into her sub-space pocket and closed the rift.

Next, she unfurled her white wings and pushed her Burst Limit to 20x. With Frieza currently in a state where he might blow up the planet at any second, she needed a reaction speed equivalent to a power level of at least 120,000,000.

Finally, she picked up the black coat the mysterious youth had left for her and tucked it into her storage. She didn't recognize it, but she wanted to return it to her unknown benefactor if they ever met again.

(Time to go.)

She took flight. In a blur of white light, she streaked across the Namekian sky. The sea split in her wake as she covered the 60,000 kilometers to the battlefield in less than a minute.

She arrived and hovered, maintaining a careful distance to form a triangle between herself, Goku, and Frieza. Both combatants looked at her in surprise. Goku, bathed in golden light, looked visibly relieved.

"Lisette. Looks like you finished your business on your end," Goku said, his voice deeper, more resonant.

"I did. And I see you've finally... arrived, Goku."

"...You knew about the Super Saiyan?"

"I'd heard the rumors. But this is the first time I've seen the legend in the flesh."

Lisette was genuinely moved. This was the original golden transformation—the progenitor of so many tropes in her old world.

Frieza, however, was trembling with a mix of rage and mounting dread. He knew Lisette had been fighting Cooler. For her to return alone meant his brother was dead. It meant the girl standing before him possessed power comparable to a Super Saiyan.

"Are you ready, Frieza?" Lisette asked, her aura flaring pure white. "I won't hesitate to make this a two-on-one fight."

She had the heart of a "God of War," not a sportsman. She didn't care about "fair play" or "warrior's honor." She wanted the threat neutralized as quickly as possible.

But the man beside her felt differently.

"Wait, Lisette. Let me handle this."

"I expected you'd say that," she sighed. "But Goku, this isn't a game. If we let him live, he remains a threat to everyone, including Earth."

"He killed Krillin!" Goku roared, the earth shaking under the weight of his voice. "He was my best friend... a good man! Frieza blew him to pieces! And because of you, I know Krillin can't come back with our Dragon Balls! I won't forgive him! I'm the one who's going to avenge him!!"

Lisette felt a chill run down her spine. The raw, tectonic fury in Goku's voice was unlike anything she had ever felt. He was always so kind, so easygoing—which made this transition into a being of pure wrath all the more terrifying.

After a long silence, Lisette lowered her hands.

"...Fine. But no mercy, Goku. When you have the chance to end it, you take it. Understand?"

"Yeah. Thanks, Lisette."

Lisette knew the risks. Namek would likely be destroyed. Frieza might survive to return to Earth later. And there was no guarantee Goku would make it back. Even in the original story, it was a close call. And here, she had already "unzipped" the plot so much that anything could happen.

"I'm taking the others back to Earth now," Lisette said. "Goku... make sure you come home."

"I will. Count on it."

She decided to trust him. She would watch the fight from afar and intervene if it became a true catastrophe, but for now, she would let the Super Saiyan have his justice.

She flew to where Gohan and the others were gathered and opened a massive Gate.

"W-Wait, Lisette!" Yamcha cried. "What are you doing? If you and Goku fight together, Frieza is toast!"

"This is what Goku wants," Lisette replied calmly. "If I interfered now, he might actually hit me instead of Frieza."

It was a slight exaggeration, but she had to convince them. Goku was currently a being of pure instinct and rage; he needed this.

She ushered Gohan, Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Nappa, Turles, Boss Rabbit, and even a battered Vegeta through the portal. She was amazed Vegeta was still alive after the beating he'd taken. Truly, the Prince of Saiyans was made of iron.

"Trust me," she said to the group. "If things get truly dangerous, I'll step back in. Now go!"

She followed them through and closed the Gate, leaving the golden warrior alone with the tyrant.

(I believe in you, Goku. Bring us a victory.)

The group emerged onto the sanctuary of The Lookout. Dende immediately set to work healing the injured. While the Saiyans—Nappa, Turles, and Vegeta—were restored to full health, Lisette noticed their power levels didn't jump.

So there really is a limit to Zenkai boosts, she realized. It explained why the characters stopped using the "near-death" trick after the Frieza Saga.

Nearby, she saw the former God of Earth (the Previous God) talking with the Namekians she had rescued earlier. He looked truly happy to be among his own people again.

"Welcome back, Lisette," Mr. Popo said, stepping forward. "I am glad you are safe. But..."

Lisette looked around. Part of the sanctuary was in ruins. Specifically, the area housing the Hyperbolic Time Chamberhad been completely destroyed, as if someone had blasted it with an energy wave.

"What happened here?"

"A man came while you were gone," Mr. Popo explained, his voice low. "He looked like Goku."

"Like Goku?" Lisette shot a look at Turles, who merely shrugged to show it wasn't him. She knew he had been on Namek the whole time anyway.

"The man said, 'This room should not exist.' Then he destroyed it. Popo could not stop him. I am sorry."

"It's alright, Popo. As long as you and the others are safe, the room can be rebuilt."

Lisette frowned. A Goku lookalike? It had to be the masked man she saw earlier—the one who had been fighting Towa and Mira. But why destroy the Time Chamber? Was he a Time Patroller? Or something else?

"Popo, can the room be repaired?"

"No... the room was created using a distortion in space-time that existed here. That distortion is gone. We cannot send spirits into the past anymore. We might be able to use the remnants to view the past, but the training room is lost."

"A god of time must have erased it," Popo continued. "Popo heard once that there are gods even higher than the Lords of Worlds (Kais) who manage the flow of time."

The Supreme Kai of Time, Lisette thought. She didn't know her personally yet, but the lore was starting to bleed into her reality.

"Do your best with the repairs, Mr. Popo. Even if we can't train there, it's still an important archive."

Lisette walked over to the Grand Elder. She had a crucial question.

"Grand Elder, may I ask about the Namekian Dragon Balls? Are there limits to their revival power? Can they bring someone back more than once?"

"I see you know of the Earth's limitations," the Elder smiled. "Do not worry. As long as the death was not from natural causes, Porunga can bring a person back as many times as necessary."

Lisette breathed a sigh of relief. She had the "script" in her head, but she needed to hear it from him to avoid any temporal paradoxes of knowledge.

"Thank you. With your permission, I would like to use your Dragon Balls now."

"Of course. You are the savior of my people. However, Porunga only speaks the Namekian tongue. Dende will assist you."

Lisette laid the seven balls out on the tiles of the Lookout. Gohan and the others watched in awe, wondering when she had managed to gather them all.

She stood by Dende, making sure to keep a protective eye on him. Vegeta was nearby, looking like he might try to steal the wish, but one look at Lisette's serious expression told him it wasn't worth the risk.

"Dende, please. Call the dragon."

"I will!"

As Dende began the ritual, Lisette turned back to the Grand Elder for one last piece of lore.

"Elder... when the cataclysm hit Namek long ago, the previous God and Lord Slug escaped in ships. Were there others who fled to other stars?"

The Elder nodded. "There were others. But fear not. They are of the Dragon Clan, kind-hearted and wise. They will not be a threat to you."

"But the Dragon Balls..."

"Dragon Balls can only be created by those with a righteous heart. Even your world's 'Demon King' could not create them, despite his heritage. The miracle of the spheres cannot be birthed from malice."

Lisette felt a weight lift from her shoulders. If a "Dark Namekian" couldn't create Dragon Balls, the risk of "Shadow Dragons" or magical world-ending threats from other rogue Namekians was significantly lower.

The sky over the Lookout began to darken as the golden light of the spheres intensified.

"I believe in you, Goku," Lisette whispered, looking toward the distant stars. "Finish it, so we can all go home."
