"It depends on how you consider the question," Mo Yiren said. "There have been deliveries that were clearly frail and sick with spasms. There, the movements were connected to the illness. However, in this case, the delivery has the appearance of being healthy.
"There have also been some deliveries that were born with extra energy for one reason or another. In those cases, they instinctively used bursts of rapid exertion as a way of relieving the built up 'pressure.' Tell me, how consistent has this delivery's movement been?"
"There has not been a second of rest," Mo Seris replied immediately, before remembering something. "Apart from one moment. Briefly, there was a time when it took a nap in the carriage, but outside of that period, there was no hint that it would ever cease. It was quite something to witness. I even wondered if it was compatible with the symptoms exhibited by those with legendary physiques." Mo Seris chuckled.
"There is no chance that the delivery has a known physique," Mo Yiren said firmly. "Song Kiro would not be so daft as to miss one. If he saw any reason to believe the child could have such talents, he would have made sure that the Song Family preserved the delivery."
"What could it be, then," Mo Seris said. "I would not believe you if you thought it was an illness. That situation with the rapid bursts…"
"How do you know that it is not an illness? Why would a healthy delivery be driven to do such things? To continuously move without consideration for anything else - to wear itself out to the point where it fell asleep, and then to wake up and continue with the same behavior…"
"How could a child that was ill have such stamina?" Mo Seris countered.
"You asked about the outcomes of those who are most similar. Those who are most similar were found to have a disease of one sort or another." Mo Yiren shook his head. "You are correct to doubt this. I am only answering your question, after all. We will see what the truth is later tonight."
Mo Seris nodded.
"The testing will take some time. I will ensure that it is exceptionally thorough. At the conclusion of the testing, it will be determined whether the purchase was a merit. I will send someone to inform you of the outcome."
"I appreciate the gesture," Mo Seris said. Contrary to his fears, Mo Yiren had given a succinct answer this time. However, this did not change the fact that he was ready to leave the old man behind.
Better company was waiting at the Flower Visiting Pavilion.
As Mo Seris started to turn around, Mo Yiren called after him. "You seem impatient to leave. Where are you going? There isn't a birth I am forgetting, is there?" He looked down at his documents, sifting through the sheets of parchment.
"No! There are no more births." Mo Seris paused. "I am leaving to arrange a few private matters."
Instantly, Mo Yiren guessed what was going on. An instinctive look of disgust came over his face. "Brat, you know that the Mo Family has a reputation to uphold," he muttered, shaking his head.
Mo Seris did not respond, and Mo Yiren did not press any further. He had been young once too, after all.
"Go on, then," Mo Yiren waved. "Just remember to fill the offer sheet before you leave."
Mo Seris gave one last look at Naro, who was being breastfed in the corner. He had spent the last hour having his emotions pulled in every direction by the baby. He suddenly felt sick to his stomach.
Little bastard.
He abruptly turned and left.
