Chapter 94 - Chapter 95 Start

Fastest update of "Clark in the Marvel Universe"!

"Do you think we can actually keep the Cube safe right now?" Clark asked, though in truth, he didn't really care whether he held onto the Tesseract or not. The thing wasn't much use to him anymore. In fact, his energy suit seemed to react to the Cube's energy, and a careless mistake could teleport him again.

Clark wasn't about to carry the Cube around. Ever since he discovered that his energy suit could block magical attacks, he knew he'd be using it more often in battle.

If it accidentally triggered the Cube while he was mid-fight and teleported him? That would be a disaster.

Still, while he personally didn't want the Tesseract, he was concerned. With Loki's eyes clearly set on it, and S.H.I.E.L.D. potentially unable to guard it properly, Clark hesitated.

"I think we can manage," Nick Fury replied.

Since Loki hadn't yet opened a portal to bring the Chitauri army through, Fury hadn't realized just how dangerous the Tesseract truly was.

In his mind, the safest place for it was S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Well, if you insist," Clark replied. Seeing the eagerness in Fury's eyes, Clark suddenly had an idea—and handed over the Tesseract.

After all, if Loki doesn't get the Cube, then Avengers 1 might never happen.

But based on that movie, Loki came to Earth both to conquer it and because Thanos sent him. If he couldn't get the Cube now, chances are… he'd stick around longer.

So Clark figured the best way to finish this was to use the Tesseract to lure Loki.

And judging by the original story, opening a space portal big enough for the Chitauri wouldn't go unnoticed.

More importantly, Loki would definitely show up, and he wouldn't be allowed to do whatever he wanted.

In fact, even if he kept the Cube away from Loki, Clark knew he could easily stop Avengers 1 from happening—Fury wouldn't dare fight him over the Cube.

But in the grander scheme… with the Ancient One and Odin both dead in this timeline, Thanos would come to Earth, drawn by the Time Stone hidden in Kamar-Taj.

Clark couldn't allow Thanos to get his hands on it. He also didn't know whether his "snap" would reduce things by half again, or in some other way.

Without Avengers 1, there would be no Avengers 2, and without Avengers 2, no Ultron, no Mind Stone discoveries. And more importantly—no true Avengers team.

So when Thanos comes, Earth would be a mess—even worse than in the original story.

And Clark couldn't be sure he could beat Thanos if the Mad Titan already held multiple Infinity Stones. He'd need a few reliable allies.

So for the future's sake, Clark decided it was better to let Avengers 1 happen.

As for whether Loki would dare try again to take the Cube? If he didn't, well… nothing Clark could do about that.

Just after handing the Tesseract back to Fury, Clark suddenly remembered—he brought Diana back with him, but he'd left Ego behind.

"My dream was to be the landlord of a planet~" Clark sighed. Ego probably didn't go to Earth after Clark vanished—who knew where he'd ended up.

Just half an hour ago, Clark had been planning his planet like a child building a theme park. "Here's the city… over there's the garden…" He sighed again.

"Clark, what's wrong?" Diana asked, walking over.

Tonight had been weird, to say the least. Unlike Clark, she hadn't seen The Avengers, so none of the events made sense to her.

First, she suddenly appeared back on Earth. Then Clark caught a glowing Cube.

Before she could even figure out who was fighting whom, someone she'd never seen before threw a flashbang and vanished.

Now Clark was sighing after handing over the Cube. So, she asked.

"It's nothing. I was just thinking—if I knew we were going to be teleported back, I should've done something to Ego before we left. Who knows what he's said or left behind on Earth…"

Of course, Clark couldn't let her know he was just bummed about losing his cool toy—so he made up an excuse.

"Clark, I don't think you need to worry too much. Ego's power comes from his body—I doubt he can rebuild it, even in tens of thousands of years."

Diana tried to comfort him. Though Clark was clearly different from the Superman she knew, they had something in common: a strong sense of justice.

"I hope you're right," Clark said, enjoying the moment of being comforted by a beautiful woman.

Meanwhile, in a wilderness a hundred miles away…

Loki appeared in a blast of magic, bringing Hawkeye and Erik Selvig with him.

"Hoo~" Even with the power of the scepter, Loki felt winded after teleporting with two people.

But what surprised him most was—despite all odds—he'd managed to trick Clark.

"Looks like he can't really see through magic," Loki muttered, thinking back. Maybe Clark had no real way to counter illusionary spells.

"What's the plan now?" Hawkeye asked, fully under the scepter's influence and now Loki's most loyal soldier.

"We need a base," Loki said, glancing at the scepter. "Do you know somewhere hidden from S.H.I.E.L.D.? Also, I think I know how to get the Cube back."

As Loki grinned, Hawkeye responded instantly.

"I know a place S.H.I.E.L.D. can't find. And people. I know where to get more men."

He was the perfect minion. As a Level 6 agent, Hawkeye knew many of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secrets.

With a secure base and Hawkeye's intel, Loki could start building a team. The Mind Stone's power let him recruit at the press of a button.

What could be faster?

"Diana, I'm going to Nepal tomorrow. Want to come with me?" Clark asked as they flew aboard a drone.

He didn't want to mention flying while carrying her, so instead he asked Nick Fury to send a helicopter to take them home.

The reason for the trip? The energy inside him.

The Tesseract power inside Clark was now calm, but he couldn't use it for anything—not even activating the energy suit, unless it flared up naturally.

So he thought of Kamar-Taj and The Ancient One. Surely she would know how to control the energy of the Tesseract.

After all, she held another Infinity Stone herself.
