Keisha had grown a second pair of wings.
And within her body surged a newfound, formidable power.
It was only at that moment
that she finally understood.
Her parents were not ordinary people.
And neither was she. She was... an angel.
Before Keisha could even speak, her father said urgently,
"Keisha, run!"
"Head north, just keep going."
"Once you pass a river, you'll see a small village."
"It's remote and sparsely populated."
"But it's well hidden."
"Hide there."
"Drive if you must, or fly. Whichever gets you out faster."
Keisha's eyes widened. She asked,
"What about you?"
Her father looked at her calmly.
"Your mother and I will stay behind and hold them off."
"Use this chance. Leave, now."
"But... why?" Keisha asked, confused.
"We're angels too. Why are they attacking us?"
Her father answered quietly,
"Because… we betrayed the Angel King."
"Back then, I held some influence within the angel ranks."
"But the Angel King... is a wicked tyrant."
"The fate of female angels under his rule was cruel."
"They became little more than tools for pleasure."
"Your mother and I couldn't bear to watch it happen any longer."
"But we were powerless to stop it."
"So, we chose to escape from the Heavenly Realm."
"Just days ago, someone nearby reported sightings of angels."
"Your mother and I were alarmed. We had been preparing to flee."
"But today… they found us first."
Keisha stood frozen in shock.
She never imagined things would turn out like this.
But now that she thought about it,
, so many questions she'd had suddenly made sense.
Her father's swordsmanship had always seemed exceptional,
Yet she had never once seen him train.
And he'd slain a massive bear, almost effortlessly.
Her parents always appeared so young.
She'd assumed it was because they lived well, ate nutritious food, and stayed healthy.
But now…
Perhaps it was all because… they were angels?
Before she could process further,
, a shadow flashed at the edge of her vision.
Keisha shouted instinctively,
"Father, they're here!"
Her father turned toward her voice, eyes narrowing.
And sure enough, he spotted a figure approaching not far from the carriage.
"Keisha, your mother and I will hold them back."
"You must escape, now!"
Without hesitation, her father leapt from the carriage.
Wings flaring wide behind him, he launched into the sky like a dark streak.
Clang!
A metallic ring echoed, the clash of blades.
His sword had been blocked.
"Oh?"
The male angel in the sky raised an eyebrow at the sight of Keisha's father.
"There really are angels in a place like this?"
"And yet, I don't recognize you. Who are you?"
"Never mind."
He gave a cold smile.
"By the decree of the Angel King, I'll end your life right here."
Keisha's father said nothing.
He simply raised his sword and charged.
Boom, Boom, Boom!
The enemy struck back hard.
The two began clashing fiercely in midair.
Keisha's father moved with deadly precision,
Overpowering the enemy in nearly every exchange.
The smug expression on the male angel's face quickly vanished.
He turned to the other angels nearby and shouted,
"What are you waiting for?"
"Help me!"
The others exchanged looks.
One of them sneered,
"So he's not as tough as he made himself out to be."
"Didn't want us to interfere earlier, now he's begging for help."
Another nodded,
"Yeah. But this is the King's order."
"If we mess this up, we'll all be punished."
"Let's help him finish it."
"You three go help," one of them said.
"I'm more curious about that carriage."
"Let's see who else might be inside."
None of them objected.
"Fine."
And with that,
Three male angels split off.
Two flew directly toward Keisha's father.
"Unknown angel," one of them bellowed,
"Surrender now, or die by the Angel King's command!"
They charged in together.
Now faced with three attackers,
Keisha's father was quickly at a disadvantage.
Though powerful enough to handle one opponent easily,
fighting three at once was a different story.
After all,
These angels were far from weak.
Inside the carriage,
Keisha's mother saw a shadow descending toward them.
She stood up and turned to her daughter.
"Keisha, I'm going too."
"You must leave."
"Stay safe."
With that, she too grabbed her sword and soared into the sky.
The male angel who approached her stared in disbelief.
"A female angel... there really is one."
Before they had departed, the Angel King had ordered:
If you find male angels, kill them.
If you find female angels, capture them alive.
Which meant,
The Angel King must have already known.
That there were female angels here.
Keisha's mother didn't waste a word.
She dove into battle.
Her opponent didn't hesitate either.
The clash began instantly.
But,
Unlike Keisha's father,
She was no match for her enemy.
First, because the male angel she faced was the strongest among the four.
And second,
Because she was a female angel.
In this era, male angels had superior combat prowess.
Otherwise, female angels wouldn't have been reduced to such status.
As a result,
Keisha's mother was constantly on the defensive.
Not far away, Keisha's father tried to aid her.
But he was held back by the other three angels.
Even he was struggling now.
Inside the carriage,
After her mother left, Keisha took the reins.
Her father had prepared her well,
From a young age, she'd learned both how to drive and how to fight.
Seeing her mother overwhelmed,
"Mom!"
Her breath quickened, her face flushed with frustration.
She forgot all about the reins.
Instead, she reached for the sword inside the carriage,
, and launched herself into the sky.
But,
She tumbled immediately.
She had never flown before.
Her new wings were difficult to control.
Still,
Watching her mother under siege, Keisha forced herself upright.
Gritting her teeth, she willed her wings to stabilize.
At last, she managed to fly steadily,
, and charged toward the angel attacking her mother.
"Surrender."
The male angel smirked as he bore down on Keisha's mother.
"The King wants female angels taken alive."
"Spare yourself the pain."
Keisha's mother said nothing.
She fought on in silence.
With a scoff, the male angel struck again,
Sending her flying.
As he surged forward, ready to seize her,
a dark shadow streaked in from the side.
