At that moment, hearing what Mark just said, Cecilia slowly shook her head, a small breath escaping her lips. It wasn't a gesture of anger or frustration—rather, it was a subtle sign of clarity settling into her mind. Her gaze shifted toward Mark, and for a brief second, the tension between them melted away.

"Well," she finally said, her voice calm and sincere, "I'm kind of glad you stepped in."

Mark blinked, slightly taken aback by her response. He had prepared himself for backlash, for an argument or even a sharp retort. But Cecilia's tone wasn't laced with resentment it was steady, reflective.

"I mean," she continued, "you're right. I really wanted to say the truth, and believe me, I'm not afraid of anyone. If it comes to it, I'll stand my ground no matter who I'm up against."

Her voice carried strength, but there was also a softness in her expression now, like someone who understood the weight of timing and consequences.
