Kai and Mei sat on the cold, dusty floor of the now-empty room. "Do you feel a little better now?" Mei asked, turning her head toward her brother.
Kai didn't answer right away. His gaze was fixed on the floor. At last, he mumbled, barely audible: "We're alone… completely alone…"
Mei lowered her eyes, feeling the weight of every word. Silence stretched between them until Kai continued, his voice trembling between bitterness and resignation: "Betrayed. Abandoned. Squandered. Forsaken…"
"I never really considered them friends," Mei admitted softly, though her voice carried traces of pain. "But still… I feel bad."
"Deserted, cut off, left behind, neglected…"
Mei stood up and, without wasting time on words of comfort, began dragging her brother across the floor. Kai's body was limp, lifeless, though half-whispered murmurs still spilled from his lips.
