"I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Kahn. My previous behavior was like having my brain covered with flobberworm mucus..."
"Enough, enough." Interrupting the woman's tearful behavior with some irritation, Evans stood at the doorway and raised his hand. The Swooping Evil above Rita's head transformed into a small orb hanging from his wrist, and the pure black cloak also flew over somewhat reluctantly, attaching itself to Evans's back.
It hadn't finished playing yet!
Ignoring Little Cloak's somewhat resentful movements, Evans looked into the woman's eyes.
"Did you remember everything I told you just now?"
"I remember everything, Mr. Kahn." Rita nodded hastily, afraid that nodding with too small an amplitude would be seen as insufficiently sincere.
"Then that's fine."
"I hope to see a new report tomorrow."
After saying this, Evans left the room and closed the door.
Looking at the closed door, Rita finally let out a long breath.
Finally gone.
Just thinking about the series of events that had just occurred, she couldn't help but feel a wave of lingering fear.
Although with her personality, after experiencing such a thing, she should be very angry and want to retaliate afterward, now she didn't even dare to generate a single angry thought.
Too terrifying. That feeling of everything being seen through was too terrifying.
Burying the fear deep in her heart, Rita developed some other emotions.
That was hatred toward that commissioner!
If not for her, she wouldn't have fallen to this state! Now that young man could easily destroy her career, or even directly destroy her life, whenever he wanted!
If those secrets were exposed, many important figures would hate her to the bone.
With anger in her eyes, Rita spread a piece of letter paper on the table.
She wanted to investigate the identity of that commissioner. This wasn't difficult, as that commissioner hadn't deliberately hidden their identity too much.
From the Ministry of Magic, probably female, not young, and liked to act cute.
Just asking a few familiar people at the Ministry of Magic would lock down the target.
Thinking this way, the anger in Rita's eyes became even more intense.
After finding out, she would make that person completely ruined!
In Hogsmeade, the fireplace at the Three Broomsticks lit up with green flames. A few seconds later, Evans's figure emerged from it, patting off the dust left from traveling through the Floo Network.
He could roughly guess that the person who commissioned Rita should be that Undersecretary who had been visited by him yesterday.
But he didn't plan to go to that Undersecretary's house again to do the same thing.
Too much of a waste of time. This afternoon was originally just a quick trip to prevent this journalism student from producing another report about him tomorrow.
If she published another one, his reputation at school would definitely be affected.
Besides, dealing with Ministry officials required extreme caution to avoid leaving any clues or leverage.
Although it wouldn't be difficult for him to do this, it was better to avoid unnecessary trouble.
Let Rita do this instead. Let them fight each other.
Through the previous two reports, Evans now very much believed in this Ms. Rita Skeeter's abilities.
Her skill at turning black into white was masterfully applied, not inferior to those who manipulated public opinion online in his previous life.
Entrusting this matter to her, Evans felt assured.
As for now, he had to complete something he had promised a few days ago.
Actually, today's affair was just along the way. He wouldn't make a special trip just to get revenge on a reporter.
Looking at the still-charming lady at the bar counter not far away, Evans spoke softly.
"Ms. Rosmerta, two butterbeers to go."
"For takeout, there's a 10 Knut packaging fee!"
The proprietress of the Three Broomsticks chuckled softly, waving her wand. Two thin wooden cups floated to the side, filled with butterbeer, covered with lids, and handed to Evans.
"Thank you."
After paying, Evans walked through Hogsmeade's streets carrying two cups of butterbeer.
As the only all-wizard village in modern times, Hogsmeade was a picturesque place. Medieval-style cottages and shops were everywhere, with magical signs and floating decorations visible throughout. Unlike Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade's streets had relatively fewer pedestrians, and the shops were more sparsely distributed, leaving plenty of living space for residents.
Walking forward along the street, as the surrounding buildings gradually thinned, an inconspicuous small house appeared before Evans.
After knocking on the door and waiting nearly half a minute, the door was opened. A Crup stood at the entrance, its expression clearly changing from vigilance to excitement upon seeing Evans, even wanting to wag its other non-existent tail.
Then, an old man wearing a prosthetic and walking somewhat unsteadily poked his head out from the side. His face lit up with joy upon seeing Evans.
"You finally came! Come in quickly!"
The next morning, the early-rising students listlessly ate their breakfast, but among them, some Slytherin upperclassmen were clearly more spirited.
They were gathering in small groups, discussing something that excited them greatly.
"I heard that 'that person' hasn't come back since going out yesterday!"
"Could he really have been arrested by the Ministry of Magic for investigation?"
The discussion continued, with most Slytherin upperclassmen showing relieved joy on their faces. Even though a few had different expressions, they all remained silent.
They were all those who had experienced that incident and had a deep-seated fear of that person.
"Actually, I think Professor Kahn is quite nice..." A fourth-year Slytherin student spoke up timidly, but seeing the cold, fear-filled gazes of the upperclassmen around him, he quickly lowered his head and frantically stuffed food into his mouth.
"However, I think we should still be cautious," a sixth-year student said with some fear on his face. "If that person wasn't arrested for investigation, then our current behavior will definitely make him very unhappy."
As one of the students who had experienced that incident, he didn't dare discuss that person without solid evidence.
But Marcus laughed heartily.
"At a time like this, even that person would be mindful of his image! Being out all night means either he was arrested by the Ministry of Magic for investigation, or he has a guilty conscience and ran away himself!"
"Actually, I knew long ago that someone who could do that kind of thing couldn't possibly be a good person who loves magical creatures..."
The Great Hall doors suddenly swung open, and a young man who looked somewhat tired but still wore a smile entered the hall. He seemed to have heard something and looked meaningfully at the silent Slytherin table.
Marcus immediately shut his mouth and broke out in a cold sweat.
What happened next made him sweat even more profusely.
The Great Hall windows suddenly opened, and countless owls flew into the hall, dropping letters and newspapers on their recipients' tables.
One newspaper landed right in front of him, with a prominent headline on the front page and a picture that looked like poachers being arrested en masse.
