Chapter 10 - chapter_10

She sobbed.

-"I didn't want this, I swear. My whole life, I've tried to stay out of trouble. I was fine with that low pay. What was I supposed to do to make him leave me alone?"

Thinking back to those moments hurt her deeply.

-"One night, after everyone left and the shift was over, I was closing up the restaurant. That jerk showed up. He was drunk, but not so much that he didn't know what he was doing. He got close to me… too close. He was touching… my body."

Now the girl was crying openly, tears streaming down her face.

Jacob's brows were furrowed, and Matthew stared at Diana coldly, his jaw clenched tight.

She went on.

-"He wanted to finish it right there. I know he was going to… to r*pe me. I grabbed a plate and smashed it hard on his head, then ran. I was so shaken I didn't stay to see what happened to him."

-"I went straight home, ignoring the restaurant. The next morning—I don't know, maybe six or seven—the doorbell rang."

Diana wasn't crying anymore.

-"It was the police. They arrested me for helping with a theft and attacking James. The restaurant's cameras were broken. My fingerprints were on the plate. A fake witness came out of nowhere, claiming I stole something. That sealed it. Even without all that, James knew enough people to send me to jail without any proof."
