Chapter 19 - 19. Backyard fire

Buck and the other two, ready to go, immediately activated the hydraulic device upon hearing Li Wei's command, and the 150-kilogram fishing cage was easily lowered into the sea.

The fishing cage, made entirely of steel, quickly sank into the sea under its own weight. Jim seized the opportunity and quickly threw the buoy into the sea. Only then was the deployment of one fishing cage completed.

Six and a half hours later, all 100 fishing cages on the deck of the Sea Monster had been deployed in this area.

However, Li Wei and their work was not yet finished. The Sea Monster still had to return to the fishing boat dock to transport the remaining 100 fishing cages onto the boat and fill the fish hold with ice cubes to prepare for the subsequent fishing operation.

If they were lucky, by the time the second batch of fishing cages was deployed, they would be just in time to return and retrieve the first batch.

Then it would be a cycle of deploying cages and retrieving cages until the fish hold of the Sea Monster was full of black cod.

...

By the time Li Wei and the others returned to the fishing boat dock, it was already seven in the evening.

As soon as the Sea Monster docked at the berth, Jessica, who had been waiting at the dock, came aboard the fishing boat with Wangcai in her arms.

Wangcai, who had been quite quiet, immediately broke free from Jessica's embrace the moment he saw Li Wei, and 'thump, thump, thump' ran to Li Wei's feet, rubbing his big head against Li Wei's calf.

Li Wei squatted down and rubbed Wangcai's head, then picked him up and said to Jessica:

"Jessica, Wangcai didn't cause you any trouble, did he?"

"No, Wangcai is very smart, I basically don't have to worry about him. If only Wangcai wasn't so attached to you, I wouldn't bear to give him back."

After Jessica finished speaking, she stepped forward and stroked Wangcai's neck, while Wangcai enjoyed it and tilted his head back, squinting his small eyes.

"Oh, right, Li Wei, I brought you a lot of pizza, it's all in the car, you can have someone go get it later."

"Thanks, Jessica. If you hadn't reminded me, I would have almost forgotten that I haven't eaten yet."

Li Wei shouted to Jim, who was moving the fishing cages:

"Jim, Jessica brought us pizza, go get it from the car."

"Wow, Jessica, you're an angel."

Hearing that there was pizza to eat, Jim had no mind for work. He quickly ran to Jessica's car, grabbed four large boxes of pizza, and ran back to the boat.

When he returned to the deck with the pizza, he didn't care about his image at all, directly picked up a slice of pizza and ate it heartily.

Li Wei and Jessica were already used to this.

Because the work on a fishing boat is very tiring, with tight schedules and heavy tasks, there's no time to sit down and chew slowly.

But none of this had much to do with Li Wei, the Captain.

If he, the Captain, had to do everything, what would be the point of hiring crew?

Soon, everyone put down their work and ran to the deck to eat pizza.

"Li Wei, how does it feel to go fishing for the first time?"

Li Wei had just picked up a slice of pizza intending to take a bite, but upon hearing the girl's question, he took the pizza away from his mouth again.

"It feels pretty good, I feel like I've fallen in love with this job."

"Tch, I remember you didn't say that back then."

Jessica's words brought back memories in Li Wei's mind.

The story was very simple, nothing more than a young man yearning for life in the big city, while his old father wanted his son to take over his job.

In the end, the father still agreed for the young man to go to school in the big city, even using his connections to get a 'letter of recommendation' for the young man.

Seeing Li Wei lost in thought, Jessica thought he was thinking of something sad and quickly said:

"Li Wei, I'm sorry! I..."

"It's okay, I guess I've fulfilled 'his' wish now. And I genuinely like the life I have now."

Li Wei finished speaking and looked at the three people not far away who were wolfing down pizza.

Seeing that Li Wei didn't seem to be faking it, the heart that Jessica had been holding instantly relaxed.

What the girl didn't know was that the Li Wei standing beside her now was no longer the 'Li Wei' of the past, but Li Wei from the other side of the Pacific Ocean twenty years later.

...

As the night grew deeper, the originally quiet dock gradually became lively.

A large number of small fishing boats returned to the dock with their catches, and the sounds of discussing the harvest rose and fell.

On the Sea Monster, after Buck and the other two confirmed that all the fishing cages were securely tied, they gave an "ok" gesture towards the wheelhouse.

Li Wei picked up the intercom and said:

"Then let's head out now and try to deploy all these cages tonight."

The Sea Monster slowly sailed out of the berth. After filling up with ice cubes on the other side of the dock, it quickly sailed towards destination number two.

Because destination number two was relatively close, the Sea Monster only took four hours to reach it.

However, Li Wei was not in as good a mood this time as he was in the morning.

Observing the virtual screen, he found that the seabed in this area was bare, with only a very small number of fish swimming around, like an underwater desert.

If the cages were deployed in this area, the final harvest would be predictable.

In fact, this is the situation fishermen encounter most often, while the situation in the morning was relatively rare.

If they could return with a full load every time, they wouldn't have to drift on the sea day after day; they would have already become rich and reached the peak of their lives.

However, Li Wei did not stop Buck and the other two from deploying the cages. He needed an opportunity, an opportunity to establish his authority.

It was foreseeable that with the detection system, he would catch a lot of fish in the future. He needed enough authority to convince everyone to believe in his fishing ability and not associate it with strange things.

On the deck, Buck and the other two had prepared the fishing cages and were just waiting for Li Wei's command to start deploying them.

"Guys, start deploying the cages!"

As Li Wei's voice fell, Buck and the other two immediately moved. The fishing cages were thrown into the sea by the hydraulic device and quickly sank into the sea, disappearing from sight.

When all the fishing cages on the deck were thrown into the sea, the first stage of everyone's work was completely finished.

Although it was now four in the morning, Buck and the other two still couldn't rest. They needed to prepare the bait in advance for the upcoming work.

Li Wei, who had been in the wheelhouse all day, handed the wheelhouse over to Buck, while he came to the deck to breathe fresh air.

Looking at the pitch-black sea around him, Li Wei felt a sense of inexplicable pressure Attack.

It made him unable to resist shouting at the sea.

"Ah..."

As he shouted out, the inexplicable pressure immediately dissipated, and he felt much more relaxed.

"Boss, what are you doing?"

Jack and Jim, who were making bait, suddenly heard Li Wei's shout and thought something had happened, so they quickly put down their work and ran to the deck.

Seeing that Li Wei was fine, they breathed a sigh of relief.

"Jack, Jim, I'm just relaxing."

"Uh, Boss, your way of relaxing is really unique. Unlike me, when I'm under pressure, I just go to a bar for a drink and have a deep communication without any ties."

After Jim finished speaking, a knowing look appeared on his face.

Jack couldn't stand to see Jim being smug.

He said directly:

"Jim, I advise you to keep a low profile, Kid. If Ellie finds out, she'll probably shoot your little brother."

Jim was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

"Jack, you have the nerve to talk about me, I saw you with the convenience store... Woo woo woo..."

"..."

Li Wei exclaimed, good heavens, you guys really know how to have fun.

One got married last year, and one has three daughters at home, each of them is really not afraid of a fire in the backyard!

Seeing the two of them like this, Li Wei quickly said:

"Ahem, ahem, ahem, I don't interfere with your private lives, but it can't delay work. If the bait isn't ready, I'll deduct your wages."

"Boss, we were just kidding, we definitely won't delay the work that follows."

"That's right, Boss. You know me, I only have Ellie in my heart."

"..."

Jim and the other one didn't dare to continue their strong man locking man act and quickly ran back to the grinder to make bait.

Seeing Jim and the other one quiet down, Li Wei returned to the wheelhouse, discussing fishing knowledge with Buck while searching for suitable fishing spots through the detection system.

Effort pays off. When the Sea Monster passed through an underwater basin, he really found a school of black cod.

In his view, the dense black cod were distributed throughout the entire underwater basin, even more than the fish at destination number one.

Li Wei quickly noted down the latitude and longitude of this area.
