Seeing this, not only the live broadcast room but also the Transdimensional Chat Group was buzzing.
[Deadpool]: Damn it, I always thought that ritual was real! I was planning to learn it—just in case it might come in handy someday.
[Steve Rogers]: It's best not to mess with anything related to the Crimson King. It's not worth the risk.
[Tony Stark]: The Devourer of Worlds was actually contained by a bunch of mystic scholars using magic instead of tech? I refuse to accept that!
[Ancient One]: Mysticism isn't contrary to science—it simply follows a set of cosmic laws we haven't yet understood.
[Hulk]: What I want to know is what Leon Lake will do now that he's learned the truth about SCP-2317.
[Hawkeye]: Same here. What's Leon really after...?
Just as the discussion heated up—
On the screen:
"At the same time, contingency measures are being prepared to ensure the survival of the human species in the event of containment breach…"
The supervisor's voice abruptly stopped. Her slightly nervous expression suggested she had said more than intended.
But what surprised her most was Leon Lake's calm.
Especially when she met his deep, emotionless eyes—it felt as if her own soul were being drawn into an abyss.
Damn it!
The Overseer quickly shifted gears. "So tell me, why are you so interested in SCP-2317?"
Leon gave an unexpected answer: "If my answer satisfies you, will you skip the Class B amnestic?"
The supervisor froze, then chuckled in surprise.
Live Broadcast Room:
"Wait, what? Class B amnestic?"
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters:
Nick Fury narrowed his eyes. "That makes sense. Leon only has Level 4 clearance. The Overseer clearly planned to wipe his memory after this meeting."
Natasha Romanoff frowned. "If that's the case… how are we watching this footage?"
Nick Fury blinked, then gave her a look—she had a point.
Back on the screen:
Leon's breathing grew faintly more labored. His expression carried a trace of confusion and unease.
"I think I lost a memory," he said slowly.
The Overseer replied coolly, "Everyone forgets things. Maybe you were given a memory wipe during a previous mission?"
Leon smiled thinly. "Are you referring to the Yellowstone Incident?"
The Overseer visibly flinched.
"You still remember that?" she asked, stunned.
"I was never affected by standard memory-wipe protocols," Leon said calmly.
"Then you might need an internal evaluation," the Overseer snapped.
"Relax. Whether it's Type Blue or Type Green—I'm just an outlier."
The Overseer stared at him, trying to read him. "Back to your earlier point. You still think you've forgotten something important? Something related to the Supreme Entity?"
Leon nodded, then shook his head. "I don't know what it is. I just feel… it mattered. Deeply."
Da. Da. Da.
The Overseer tapped her fingers rhythmically on the table. The hollow sound echoed ominously in the quiet data vault.
Neither of them spoke.
After nearly a minute, the Overseer looked up. Her eyes flickered.
"I have a plan. And I might need your help," she said at last.
Leon said nothing—until she spoke the name:
"The Rebirth Protocol."
The screen went black.
Live Broadcast Room:
"WTF?! Another cliffhanger?"
"What the hell is the Rebirth Protocol?"
"What did Leon forget?! TELL ME!"
"Throw the Overseer in a containment cell with SCP-096!"
---
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters:
"The whole O5 Council is just a bunch of Riddlers!" Natasha growled.
Nick Fury didn't answer. As a leader himself, he understood. If you can't explain something... don't.
But then again—
He frowned.
Maybe there were limits to that kind of thinking.
Luckily, the broadcast resumed.
Dr. Kondraki's Office:
"Damn it! Not even a single warning from the O5s?" Dr. Kondraki looked at Leon, surprised. "Didn't you just access SCP-2317 using Level 4 clearance?"
"I did."
"You saw the file?" Kondraki scratched his head. "Strange. I wasn't even instructed to check your identity."
"Check my identity?"
Dr. Kondraki shrugged. "Come on. You know the Foundation has enemies—Chaos Insurgency, Serpent's Hand, the Black Queen… They're always eyeing our high-risk assets."
Live Broadcast Room:
Hearing these names stunned the audience.
Fortunately, Leon asked the question they were all wondering.
"What do they want?"
"You serious? You've never heard of them?" Dr. Kondraki blinked. "Just yesterday, Chaos Insurgency hit a site and made off with multiple SCPs."
Even Leon looked a little surprised.
"The Chaos Insurgency split off from the Foundation in 1924," Kondraki said. "A bunch of radicals went rogue and stole anomalies."
"They exploit poor countries—use the locals like we use D-Class personnel. And they like keeping those countries unstable, so they can keep recruiting foot soldiers."
"If you think the O5 Council are cold-blooded bastards, then the Insurgency are straight-up monsters."
"They've infiltrated us before—stolen data, killed personnel, kidnapped anomalies."
As he spoke, the chat exploded again:
"WTF?! Chaos Insurgency SPLIT from the Foundation??"
"They're basically anti-human terrorists!"
"Can't anyone just not start another apocalyptic threat?"
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters:
Nick Fury sighed.
He sympathized.
It was like S.H.I.E.L.D. all over again—constantly under attack from extremists and internal spies.
But the Foundation?
Their stakes were much, much higher.
Back in the office:
"There are differences between the Serpent's Hand, the Black Queen, and the Chaos Insurgency," Dr. Kondraki muttered. "But whatever. Look into it yourself. Anyway—I've got a new mission."
"A project to terminate a Keter-class SCP. You interested?"
Leon raised an eyebrow. "You?"
Dr. Kondraki's face fell. "What's with that tone? You think only Clef gets to have all the fun?"
He tossed a file at Leon.
[Project Codename: Duke]
[Item No.: SCP-083]
[Object Class: Keter]
The live broadcast room went dead silent.
Another Keter-level anomaly?
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters:
Natasha groaned. "How many of these things are out there?!"
Even Fury felt uneasy.
Could Kondraki really terminate a Keter object?
[Special Containment Procedures: SCP-083 is to be locked in its chamber from 0700 to 1900. Outside those hours, it may roam designated areas under supervision of at least 12 Level 2 personnel or higher.]
[SCP-083 has shown no desire to escape and claims, "I love it here. Everything I need is here." However, it has shown increased interest in certain other SCPs located at Site-19.]
[Dr. █████ recommends restricting 083's access to all SCPs, per Addendum 083-D-1.]
The audience blinked.
…That's it?
A polite vampire?
A Caucasian male in his twenties, calling himself "Duke"?
Something felt off.
Too off.
And then came Addendum 083-D-1.
And everyone finally realized—
They had it all wrong.
How wrong they were...
