Chapter 3 - The System

The woman in front of the mirror was a young blonde woman, blue eyes and a very beautiful face. Just one look at her would tell everything about her youthfulness. Leahlya took a sharp breath and walked towards her bed. With 'disbelief' written all over face, she sat on her bed and touched her face. Swallowing her saliva, she pinched her cheek and let out a cry filled with pain.

Leahlya's brain was in the sorting process. She touched her arms, and her legs... making her curse at herself.

It's true. I have reincarnated. I always thought it to be fantasy... but to think... I would reincarnate in that 'crappy' novel. Nope, I never thought that. Why the heck I am so petite?

[It's unbelievable, right?]

What!!

Leahlya jumped up from the bed in surprise and looked around her. She grabbed the statue from the table near her bed. She asked, "Who's there? I am warning you. Show yourself before I call my father."

[Host! Why are you acting so surprised? Don't you know?! You have read plenty of novels in your previous life.]

System! Of course... I am not surprised! How can a reincarnation be incomplete without a system?

[Glad you know what I am! Of course, you were a cop. Although, your last mission was a 'success-failure' mix. Oh, before you say anything, I am not antagonizing you, okay?]

Leahlya's eyes turned grim at that thought. Her last mission was just a failure... not a success. She not only failed to arrest her friend, but also couldn't save the baby. In her entire career, she had never shot at anyone. Maybe she was naïve... but she believed in her 'best friend.' If that was what she could call her.

Are you the reason of my reincarnation?

[No, I am not. You are the reason. Your question should be something else.]

Okay, why are you here? I believe you should answer that first.

[I will... but I am meaning to ask you something first. You remember the 'book,' right?]

As a matter of fact, I do. I remember that 'bloody' book if that your question. I am Leahlya Argaentine, a minor villainess in the novel called 'The Princess Traps her Lovers.' A very idiotic title, yet I wasted much of my time there. Maybe I am the one who should be called an idiot. God knows why I did waste my 'precious' time over that book. If I had known before, I would die a premature death, I would have never wasted my time on that one.

[It's good you remember it.]

Ah, have you a heard a saying? 'A dying human's last memory stays with them always?'

[Who said that?]

I have. You know, you should really thank me for my quote.

[You are taking this way cool than any human will. I guess, you are not surprised.]

Leahlya laughed at its words. She laid down on the bed and tried to swing her legs. But she stopped immediately when her she lifted her leg.

[You are still recovering.]

I know. I just wanted to feel my body. I mean, my brain is still a mess. I have the memories of two humans which in fact are me. So, you shouldn't be shocked if I do some weird things.

[Host, you needn't need to be worried. I have read your file, and I am pretty sure... you are weird. So, no question there.]

Ah, thank you. I am really feeling blessed by your words. So, can we talk business.

[Huh? Ah, yes. As you know, I am a system. I am called 'Reality Rectifier System.' Also knows as 'RRS.' My job is to rectify a world's core problems. Also, yeah... that novel you read was a world in itself.]

But why a book would be written to 'express' it? I mean, it's surprising.

[Although, I am not allowed to say this. I should probably tell you something. This world has been rectified countless times... but it always resets itself.]

You want to say that the job was never completed in the first place. So, it tends to repeat, aren't you?

[It's one way to say this. The jobs were always done by 'transmigrators.' We have never tried a reincarnated person.]

So, first 'reincarnated' human in this world, huh? But the book? I guess, and I want you to correct me. A person who had seen this 'world,' got reincarnated in my world. With the 'broken pieces,' he or she wrote a novel. The one, I am reincarnated in, ain't I?

[Correct. It feels nice to have a sane host for a change. I am telling you... I will have the utmost pleasure in working with you.]

If I could say the same about you. Hah, well then. I can't do anything, can I? So, would you like to tell me if you want to tell your job with me?

[I will ignore your jab. You are quiet impatient, aren't you?]

I am. So, I will like to hear you out. Humour me, if you want to.

Leahlya wanted to know every detail before doing anything. She was no one's slave. If this 'system' could prove its words, then she might help her out, provided she should be rewarded as well. The new life had turned a bit greedy, yet not that 'greedy.' She was still 'kind,' wasn't she? Of course, who was she kidding? She didn't change a bit.
