Chapter 4 - Asking for Something

[You have read the novel, haven't you? There must be a flaw which you have noticed. ]

Yes, I have. The crimes were left unsolved. It was a lawless world, and I am pretty sure... it isn't good.

[Good. In the novel, or you can say the world you are in now, crimes are frequent.]

Humans are sinful creatures. It obvious they will commit crimes. The problem lies with the knights. The novel didn't solve a single crime. All I got was suspense.

[That's the problem. Although, not the entire problem. I am sure you have some thoughts about the real problem, right?]

The real problem will arise if something happens to the very essence of the world. Something like... if the protagonist dies or something. Or, the problem could arise if the world starts leaning towards the inevitable apocalypse.

[Hmmm... I am sure you worked your mind on this theory. But no. It's not correct, at least not fully. See, the problem lies on the piling of crimes, which were remained unsolved. The protagonist didn't give any thought to. As the protagonist, she is the 'chosen one.' Someone, who has the responsibility to lead the world towards growth and development.]

So, she didn't focus on that. Instead, she focused on her love-life, destroying the entire world in the process. The 'Sacrton Empire' is the only empire among the monarchies. The rest are kingdoms. If this empire gets overthrown, then the rest of the world would definitely not fare better.

[Yes, this world got destroyed. Not for one time... but for at least ten times. We were horrified by this chain of events so we recruited 'transmigrators.' On a large scale, in fact. But it didn't change anything.]

I see. You want to say the transmigrators failed in their job? What did they do?

[They never focused on the real target. We especially recruited men. But instead of doing their job, they focused on other things. You are smart enough to know their thought process, though women turned out the same as men. They were also distracted by the pleasures of this world.]

You still haven't told me what to do?

[Your task is to save the world from the brink of inevitable destruction. It's your choice, Host. You are the only one, who can rectify this world.]

Will I get something at the end of the completion of the deal?

[Yes, you will.]

Then, I accept.

[You will?! Don't you have other doubts in your mind? At least, you should have some questions.]

I have. But it will have to wait. I will ask when the time is right. Although, I have a question which I would like you to ask now.

[What question?]

What did the protagonist fail in exactly? Isn't she the chosen one? She should have done something.

Sitting at the dining table, Leahlya was stirring the soup with a spoon. Although she was sitting at the table, her mind was somewhere else. She was analysing very information on her mind. Leahlya Argaentine, a minor villainess... who was the lackey of the 'real' villainess of the novel, 'Saela Dormane.' OG Leahlya died in prison for the crimes committed by her and her 'master.' Both of them should have been punished but OG Leahlya was the only one who got the punishment. Saela, survived till the very end along with the real villain of the novel.

Suddenly, a sarcastic voice pulled Leahlya out of her thoughts.

"I can bring you some toys to play. Don't play with the food. You are dirtying the table. I don't have to tell our condition now, do I?"

Leahlya sighed, "I was not playing. Just some thoughts, okay? Please don't fuss on it. Also, I remember it very well that we are not as wealthy as were before."

Victor wiped his mouth with a napkin and put it on the table. He shrugged, "It's good that you know our condition. Having a sensible daughter is making me fill with emotions. Still, you don't remember everything, do you?"

"Stop it. Your plan is not going to work. You have messed up in the first place. Every human gets one shot; you messed up yours. So, deal with the daughter you have got."

Victor nodded his head and leaned back on his chair. "Ah, I am sorry. It's just I wanted to recorrect my mistakes. I thought maybe I will get another chance on parenthood. This time, I will give my daughter good teachings, and don't turn her into someone who is obsessed with the imperial prince."

Leahlya's face flushed in embarrassment. All the shameful things she had done to impress her ex-fiancé erupted out of her brain like a volcano. She slammed the spoon on the table and yelled, "Father! We are not going to talk about the shameful things which I had done in the past! I am a changed woman now."

Grinning at her, Victor asked, "Oh? You have changed? How?" His words were jovial as if he was asking something trivial, yet his eyes were sharp as an eagle.

With a straight face, Leahlya replied, "I will not chase after my ex-fiancé. In fact, from now on, I will not mention him at all. He is as good as a dead rat!"

"You know, you might get arrested if you badmouth the imperial prince. He was the crown prince after all. So, you should tone down a bit."

"Father, only we two are in here. As for the servants... we don't need to be worried about them. 4 maids, 2 butlers, and I gardener. Oh, one 'Head Maid' and one 'Head Butler.' Also, 150 knights. I guess, we are a rundown family, aren't we?" snorted Leahlya.

Victor asked, "Are you resenting me for this?" His words were nonchalant. But Leahlya knew the meaning behind those words.

"I don't resent you for this, Father. You are the only one I have left. Also, it's not your fault," replied Leahlya, softly.

Victor nodded his head and averted his eyes. He knew his mistake. He wanted to change it but he couldn't. The only thing he could do was to protect his daughter from its aftermath.

Suddenly, Leahlya realized it was the best time for her to ask her father for something. A permission, to be precise.

"Father, can I ask you for something?"

"Anything, except for a castle. I don't have the money."

"I know that!" Leahlya took a deep breath, "I want to open an investigating office!" These words made Victor's jaw wide open in shock.
