Chapter 24 - A Counter Attack

 I could hardly breathe on returning to the estate, my chest was too heavy and the tension in the air was almost palpable. News of how the meeting had gone had undoubtedly reached everyone here and the atmosphere seemed to be charged

 I hadn't uttered a single word since Elias told me a man had died. What could I possibly say? I was still trying to deal with the kid's death on my conscience and now one of my guards was dead because of my recklessness and pride.

 Elias, typically a man of few words, had been even more so, but there was something to his silence; he seemed to be brooding. He was upset and it had never been more obvious. Perhaps he was upset with me, perhaps he resented me for everything.
