Chapter 12 - Complex Thoughts

The "27th Week Mission Challenges", some of which were injured and some were not, were completed with the employees receiving their extra pay, with some exceptions. With the completion of the missions, the employees returned to their old routine for the time being. Head Chief Brady was preparing to call the employees to the meeting room to tell them the results of the missions. However, compared to the upcoming start of work hours, some employees were not even there.

"It looks like some of you won't be there today... We'll move the meeting up. We'll continue with the rest of you today."

After Head Chief Brady's speech, a question came from an employee immediately. Due to the importance of the question, most of them had already fixed their eyes on Head Chief.

"Chief, I have a question for you. It's a bit cliché, but I wonder how Ruby's vitals are?"

The Head Chief, who broke into a small sweat after the question, tried to remain calm and answered the question.

"Your Deputy Chief Quinn is monitoring your colleague's condition closely. But don't worry, our medical team is doing the best they can."

"Thank you for answering my question Chief. I have full confidence in you!"

After a "fake" smile that reflected Brady's gratitude, he repeated the order for the employees to return to work.

"Then you will be called to a meeting. But now you can get back to work. In short, let's get along well today too."

The employees who returned to their jobs started working carefully in the open air. The same was true for Ivan, but his mind was always full of what happened that day. He chose not to tell anyone the truth, only to tell lies, events that never happened. These complicated thoughts that confused him were so big that he didn't even want to tell his closest friend. Also, one of his co-workers, Orion, hadn't even set foot in the workplace today.

"Hey Ivan, you seem to be feeling unwell. How are you today?"

"As you can see, I am... My only wish is for Ruby to open her eyes."

"I heard he got hurt because of a little distraction. You should have done your job properly. Please don't whine now."

"You're right.. It's all my fault. But all I can do is wait for him to open his eyes."

"You're acting surprising... Normally you'd be snapping at me. You really don't look well. Let's have a drink when we take a break."

According to the announcement made at the moment they were going to take a break, there would be a meeting 2 hours before the end of working hours. The main purpose of the meeting was to determine the best performance in the tasks and the best damage to the target. Employees whose partners were slightly or seriously injured would be subject to a large fine and extra salary cuts. Since they were known to be quite cruel, it had become normal.

"Ivan, I can understand your situation, but when you act like this, you are not doing anything."

"I know that too. But please, let's take our minds off it during break time. I don't want to think about it now."

"You spoke the truth.. But don't bother thinking. You're wearing yourself out."

Even though Ivan and Will are often conflicted co-workers, they always support each other in any situation, because fighting in their weakest moments is a completely treacherous behavior for them.

"Yes... We are starting our meeting. If we start with the first of our topics... Now I will share with you the statistics of your team. Ivan Ross and Ruby Ruth, you have a good advantage against your target. However, a small carelessness could have cost your partner his life. Judging by the reviews, your punishment... Will Thatch and Finn Bjorg, your classic plan against your target has been successful,... Here are your rewards..."

After the meeting with Head Chief Brady, Ivan Ross became completely depressed again after the meeting. The pain he had experienced and caused, or had something like that really happened?
