The sockets suddenly glowed red, and the pieces ejected violently, clattering across the floor.
A harsh grinding noise filled the room as the walls began to shift.
"Kane, move!" Cyrus shouted, lunging forward to pull him away from the pedestal.
The floor beneath the disc split open, revealing a pit that hadn't been there moments before.
Ancient gears turned somewhere deep in the temple's mechanisms.
"Wrong sequence," Cyrus growled, positioning himself between Kane and the door as strange symbols illuminated along the walls—warning glyphs pulsing with angry crimson light.
"Sorry about that," Kane said, gathering the scattered pieces.
"I should've known it wouldn't be that simple." He examined the symbols more carefully, noting subtle markings he'd missed before.
"At least we've ruled out the traditional sequence."
Cyrus scanned the chamber, his eyes narrowing at glyphs along the upper walls.
