Cain froze the moment he realized what he had just said. The silence in the classroom pressed down like a weight. Jayden's wolf ears flattened, her tail stiff and tense. Maris' golden eyes narrowed to dangerous slits, and Anna's expression was a mixture of horror and disbelief. Cain's stomach dropped. He had stepped in it in a way that would take weeks to dig himself out of.
Almost immediately, a furious voice thundered inside his mind. It was Gaius.
"You traitor! How could you sell me out like this? Bros before Hoes, Cain! Bros before Hoes!"
Cain's eyes went wide. He was thankful the girls could not hear this mental outburst. He scrambled, trying to push it down, to force it back, but before he could, another voice, calm and unflinching, echoed in the classroom.
"Even after so many years, Gaius, you are still so vulgar and crude."
